Sandra Jimenez was upset over boyfriend's habit of ogling women
Sandra Jimenez, 44, was taken into custody by Miami-Dade County police on Saturday, November 25, following an altercation with her boyfriend of eight years at their shared residence.
According to the arrest affidavit, Jimenez had grown increasingly upset over her boyfriend's habit of ogling other women when they were out together.
Tensions came to a head that evening when, according to the victim, Jimenez physically confronted him about his wandering eyes yet again while he was resting on the living room couch.
Without warning, Jimenez allegedly jumped on top of her boyfriend and jabbed two rabies needles into his face, managing to pierce his right eyelid with one.
Authorities are unclear on why Sandra Jimenez had rabies needles
It remains uncertain why Jimenez had the rabies needles on hand in the first place. Under Florida regulations, rabies vaccinations must be administered to dogs, cats and ferrets by a licensed veterinarian.
Officials did not disclose whether the couple had any pets that required rabies immunization.
Regardless, the brutal attack left Jimenez's boyfriend seriously injured.
Shortly after the incident, he called 911 to report the assault and request medical assistance.
At Jackson Memorial Hospital, doctors treated him for the needle lodged in his eyelid while police took his statement.
In addition to getting medical help, officers also provided the victim with resources on domestic violence shelters in case he did not feel safe returning home.
They noted abrasions around his eye consistent with needle punctures.
Sandra Jimenez being held on $25,000 bond
After getting the victim's statement and description of Jimenez, police searched the area and located her sleeping in her car not far from the residence. She was promptly placed under arrest for aggravated battery.
Despite overwhelming evidence against her, Jimenez denied any wrongdoing to the arresting officers.
She claimed her boyfriend's eye injury was self-inflicted, a statement that does not align with his recounting of events.
Jimenez is currently being held by Miami-Dade County on a $25,000 bond while awaiting trial. At her initial court appearance, she submitted a not-guilty plea despite the victim's formal statement implicating her as the attacker.
