Sara Sidner reveals stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis, says 'I have never been sick a day in my life'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sara Sidner, a senior national correspondent for CNN, revealed that she has stage 3 breast cancer in an emotional segment on CNN News Central on January 8.
She said she was shocked by the diagnosis as she had no family history or risk factors for the disease.
Sara Sidner said she has 'never been sick in my life, didn't smoke'
Sidner said she was shocked when she was diagnosed with breast cancer given her healthy lifestyle as according to her she has hardly ever been sick in her life.
It gets more puzzling as she says she has never smoked and that no one in her family has been ever diagnosed with this type of cancer.
Sinder said, “I have never been sick a day in my life, I don’t smoke. I rarely drink. Breast cancer does not run in my family and yet here I am with stage three breast cancer. It is hard to say out loud.”
How is Sara Sidner is coping with her cancer treatment?
Sidner shared that she is undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and a double mastectomy to fight cancer, several outlets, including E! News reported.
Sinder said she was hopeful about her prognosis, as stage 3 is not a death sentence anymore for most women. However, she also highlighted the racial disparity in breast cancer outcomes, citing that Black women are 41 percent more likely to die from the disease than White women.

She urged all women, especially women of color, to get regular mammograms and self-exams. “To all my sisters, Black and White and brown out there,” she said, adding “please for the love of God get your mammograms every single year. Do your self-exams. Try to catch it before I did.”
Sara Sidner said she has also found a new appreciation for life
Sidner said that despite the challenges of her cancer journey, she has also found a new appreciation for life. She said she has thanked cancer for choosing her, as it has taught her valuable lessons and made her happier.
