Savanah Nicole Soto: Slain pregnant teen's BF Matthew Guerra's parents deny murder claims against dead son
LEON VALLEY, TEXAS: Pregnant Texas teen Savanah Nicole Soto and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra were found dead from gunshot injuries in their Kia Optima, shortly before their scheduled induced abortion. An unborn baby was also pronounced dead.
Although Matthew Guerra's father and stepmother expressed their grief, they don't think he killed Savanah and the couple's unborn child.
What do Matthew Guerra's parents have to say?
Police have discovered a car with the two victims in San Antonio, Texas. Soto was found dead in the front passenger seat while Guerra's body was in the back. The couple's deaths are being investigated as a "possible murder".
Gabriel Guerra, Matthew's father, said, "Those are Savanah's and Matthew's and baby Favian's." Christmas tree gifts that serve as a poignant reminder of the untimely death of a growing family, FOX SA reported.
“We still can’t believe we’re just never going to meet him,” said Matthew’s stepmother Raquel Guerra.
Gabriel mentioned that the young couple was looking forward to the birth of their child. Gabriel stated, “We had to remind him at the baby shower to let Savana open some of the gifts. He was opening all the gifts. They were both definitely happy and excited.”
After Savanah and Matthew had not been in contact, Gabriel kicked in their apartment door on Saturday afternoon, hoping to find some clues.
Gabriel recalled, "That’s when I saw Savanah’s overnight bag for the hospital that she didn’t take with her and that even threw me more in a panic."
Matthew Guerra was arrested for domestic abuse of Savanah Soto
Guerra was on probation for assaulting Soto on Christmas Day 2022 and was arrested on December 29, 2022, for contacting Soto in person, the New York Post reported.
Gabriel suggested that Matthew remained in custody longer after learning that he had been arrested in 2022 for domestic abuse against Savanah.
His probation was extended to February 2025 after he picked up additional charges, including unlawful carrying of a weapon, evading arrest in a vehicle, and reckless driving.
The 22-year-old was also penalized for failing to comply with the Battering Intervention and Prevention Program.
“They had contacted each other on the phone and that was a violation, so they can please keep him in there and unfortunately it would have to be Savana to say that, and she wouldn’t do it, so he was let out,” said Gabriel.
Charges of domestic abuse were never brought forth again. Raquel and Gabriel reported that the young couple appeared content and inseparable. They want to know who hurt Savanah because they don't think Matthew could have done it.
“It’s gotta be something personal. I mean, I don’t know what kind of person could do that to a pregnant individual,” Gabriel remarked.
