LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Shirley MacLaine, a classic film star recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

On this milestone, she shared the surprising secret of her longevity and how her early dance training played a significant role in her life.

Dance: The foundation of Shirley MacLaine’s long life

MacLaine, on being asked by People about the secret of her longevity, stated, “I started my dance training at age three and stopped at about 67."

"It taught me discipline, loving music, working with people and dealing with pain,” 'The Apartment' star revealed.

This discipline and resilience, she believes, have been instrumental in her ability to maintain a successful career and a healthy lifestyle.



 

Shirley MacLaine's gratitude for her life's positive outlook 

Besides having learned so much from dance, MacLaine also attributes her longevity to her positive outlook on life.

The ‘Steel Magnolias’ star expressed gratitude for her ability to continue working and cherishes the blessings in the form of friends in her life.

“I have my friends and I am really healthy,” MacLaine told the publication.

As she steps into her 90s, MacLaine is gearing up for an exciting year. She is set to begin filming a new movie, ‘People Not Places’, in Atlantic City soon.

Additionally, she’s sharing a look back at her life in photos in her upcoming book ‘The Wall of Life’, which will be released on October 22, 2024.

“I have lived a wonderful life and I wanted to share it,” MacLaine said regarding her book. "All of the photos brought back such wonderful memories.”

In 2019, MacLaine told People, “I have what I consider just a perfect life,” adding, “I eat what I want, I sleep when I want.”

She also revealed there was nothing much that bothers her, saying, “I think attitudes are a choice. Anger is a choice, peace is a choice, sarcasm—which is what I’m good at—is a choice.”

In one of the interviews with Variety, she said, “I've also stayed in the business and never thought about quitting because I wanted to pay for plane tickets to travel."
