CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA: Harrowing videos have surfaced depicting the tragic shootout that unfolded in Charlotte, North Carolina, on Monday, April 29, resulting in the deaths of four law enforcement officers and injuries to four others.

The incident occurred in the city's North Tryon Division when Terry Clark Hughes Jr, 39, unleashed gunfire on officers Samuel Poloche, William 'Alden' Elliott, Joshua Eyer, and Deputy US Marshal Thomas M Weeks Jr, attempting to serve him warrants at his residence.



 

Hughes, wanted for possession of a firearm by a felon and felony flee to elude charges out of Lincoln County, North Carolina, was fatally shot during the exchange.

Chilling glimpse into Charlotte shootout

Footage captured by a resident showed the chilling scene, showing two officers lying on the ground behind a car in a garage as multiple loud gunshots echoed. One of the officers is heard urging the person filming to seek shelter inside the house, reported Independent.



 

Among the fallen officers, Joshua Eyer served as a dedicated member of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, while the other three were part of the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force, with Deputy US Marshal Thomas Weeks leading the team.

At a news conference following the tragedy, Ronald Davis, director of the US Marshals Service, paid tribute to Weeks and his fallen comrades, acknowledging their bravery and sacrifice. “They are truly America’s finest,” Davis said, before adding, “Losing a deputy is like losing a family member."

Additionally, three other officers sustained gunshot wounds identified as Chris Tolley, Mike Giglio, and Jack Blowers but are currently in stable condition, while another officer Justin Campbell, received treatment for a broken foot.



 

President Joe Biden paid tribute to the fallen officers, hailing them as "heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice, rushing into harm's way to protect us." "When a law enforcement officer puts on that shield in the morning and heads out the door, their family members dread the phone call -- the very call that came today," Biden stated. "It's like losing a piece of your soul."
