WASHINGTON, DC: Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-Mn) and Cori Bush (D-Mo), members of the progressive 'Squad' in the Congress, were forced to delete their tweets commemorating Memorial Day after they found a serious error in their messages.

According to the Daily Mail, the Congresswomen had advocated for housing and healthcare reform for veterans, demanding that they get the treatment they deserve, in their tweets marking the holiday on Monday, May 27. However, Memorial Day celebrates the lives of fallen soldiers and not those who are alive.

Every year, November 11 serves as the federal holiday for veterans also known as Veterans Day, during which the posts would have been more appropriate.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, Omar wrote, "On #MemorialDay, we honor the heroic men and women who served our country."

"We owe them more than our gratitude - they have more than earned access to quality mental health services, job opportunities, housing assistance, and the benefits they were promised," she continued, showing that she clearly missed the day being about deceased soldiers and was speaking for the ones still alive.

A similar gaffe was made by Bush in her post, where she wrote, "This #MemorialDay & every day, we honor our veterans in St. Louis."

"We must invest in universal health care, affordable housing, comprehensive mental health services, and education & economic opportunities for our veterans as we work to build a world free of war and violence," she added.

Both Congresswomen were quick to recognize their mistake and deleted their respective posts within moments.

Internet slams Ilhan Omar and Cori Bush for their Memorial Day tweets

"As a congressperson or senator you should be able to differentiate between major holidays like these and pass basic civics," a Daily Mail reader wrote on the website while responding to the news.

"Of course they have no idea what Memorial Day is for. Of course they never troubled themselves to find out. They disdain the military and the Americans who sacrificed all," said another.

"Both of these clowns have held office for multiple years, and they still have no clue. Those who continue to vote for them have the representatives that they deserve," chided a third.

"Every time a Squad member makes a comment or speech, we are painfully reminded of the need for an IQ test as a prerequisite for serving in congress," shared a fourth reader.

"I mean come on, it’s there in the names of both holidays. Does anyone have common sense anymore? But it’s especially embarrassing for those in government not to know," commented a fifth.
