Tevin Semien and Nicole Logsdon: Oklahoma pair pleads guilty to bludgeoning GF's relative to death
LAWTON, OKLAHOMA: Two Lawton residents entered guilty pleas before a federal jury on Monday, April 22, in connection with the death of a woman whose body was found in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.
Makayla Nicole Leigh Logsdon, 24, entered a guilty plea to the charge of accessory to murder, and Tevin Terrell Semien, 29, who had served time for a prior felony conviction, pleaded guilty to the charges of second-degree murder and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Karon "Dinkers" Conneywerdy Smith, 68, was discovered dead on the wildlife refuge in May 2023.
Authorities discovered Karon Smith's body in Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge
The affidavit stated that Semien went to Smith's residence, "bludgeoned" her to death "with a brick, put her body in the trunk of her vehicle, and disposed of her body in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge," after he had told police he "agreed" to kill Smith.
Additionally, Semien told police investigators that he had a falling out with his girlfriend and she asked him to kill her relative, Smith, Fox News Digital reported.
The affidavit states that Smith belonged to the Comanche Nation, a Native American tribe, and that authorities discovered his body in the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge on May 17, 2023.
When the woman's home was searched, investigators discovered blood "consistent with a violent struggle," according to the authorities, who also reported that Smith's car was missing from her residence.
Tevin Semien entered guilty plea to second-degree murder
Law enforcement in Texas saw the victim's car being driven south of Dallas on May 21, a few days later. When the police tried to pull it over, Semien and Logsdon escaped and took the police on a speedy pursuit before they crashed into a lake.
The two made an attempt to escape on foot but were caught, according to the police. During that day's police interview, Semien first denied any role in the death before acknowledging that he had killed her and that Logsdon was both the victim's relative and girlfriend.
After being convicted of a prior felony, Semien entered a guilty plea to second-degree murder and illegal firearm possession.
On January 10, Logsdon entered a guilty plea to accessory after the fact to murder and acknowledged assisting Semien in eluding capture and legal action.
As per the rules, Semien could spend up to life in federal prison, and Logsdon could spend 15 years behind bars.
