'That’s just his face': Internet divided as Ben Affleck reacts to ‘sad Affleck’ Grammys meme in new ad
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Internet is abuzz as Ben Affleck humorously responded to the "Sad Affleck" meme from the 2023 Grammy Awards in a new Dunkin' Donuts commercial.
The meme, which features Affleck's seemingly unimpressed expression at the awards show, quickly gained traction on social media platforms, even earning a playful nickname - his "happy face" - from his wife, Jennifer Lopez.
The meme's widespread popularity didn't go unnoticed by Dunkin' Donuts, who appears to have cleverly incorporate it into their latest advertising campaign.
Affleck hilariously poked fun at his own viral moment from last year's Grammy Awards in the commercial.
Affleck, who hails from Cambridge, Massachusetts, has previously partnered with the Massachusetts-based company on several occasions.
His most recent collaboration features TikTok sensation Charli D'Amelio and coincides with the upcoming release of his new film featuring Lopez, titled 'This Is Me… Now: A Love Story,' set to hit theaters on February 16, per New York Post.
Ben Affleck's reaction to 'sad Affleck' Grammys meme in new commercial
The commercial that premiered during Sunday's Grammy Awards begins with Affleck, aged 51, viewing a cable news report of himself and Lopez, 54, at the 2023 Grammys, under a headline that declares, "The Boredest Man in the World."
"He's bored?" Affleck retorts to the TV in a brooding tone. "No, studying. Always watching. I could do that. How hard can it be?"
By "it," Affleck is referring to a music career. He then makes a phone call, stating that he had a dream.
"I had come up with some beats and then you were like, 'Maybe you should put that on a record,"" the actor states. "I even had like a persona, like JLo or like BLo."
In a sequence reminiscent of a 'Rocky' training montage, we witness Affleck charming a music producer, laboring in the recording studio, and navigating the world of TikTok.
Then, in a nod to the coffee brand, he sports a gold chain featuring a frosted donut pendant.
"They tell you you're no good," he mentiones. "You're a goofy, middle-aged, clumsy white guy with no rhythm and you can't sing on key."
"You're not coordinated. That means I can't be a pop star? Underestimate Boston at your peril."
