In a recent interview with CBS News’ 'Sunday Morning,' Maher reiterated his commitment to representing the “normies,” those in the vast middle ground of American politics who are tired of extreme partisanship.

“I speak for that, I think, vast middle that is tighter than partisanship,” he explained. “I don’t want to hate half the country, and I don’t hate half the country.”

Maher’s latest book, 'What This Comedian Said Will Shock You', serves as a platform for his views on the current political landscape. He acknowledges that while the left can be irritating and "frustrating", it’s the political right that truly "alarms" him.

He believes their actions and rhetoric pose a greater threat to the fabric of American society. “They’re very alarming. They’re extremely alarming, more alarming.” 

When questioned about his focus on critiquing the right, Maher said, "The truth isn’t one-sided like that.”

“The Democrats constantly are running against Trump with the idea, ‘You people out there couldn’t possibly vote for this guy,’” Maher continued. “And people are saying, ‘Watch me. Hold my beer. Watch me vote for him again'."

Maher said the media should focus on highlighting Trump's mistakes and lies.

“We know he’s a liar. He’s Donald Trump. He can’t help himself. He’s crazy. I mean, I think literally crazy. I think there’s a level of malignant narcissism, which is not just a personality quirk. It’s diagnosable, and he suffers from it.”

Despite his criticism, Maher extends an open invitation to Trump to appear on his show, suggesting that the former president may not actually harbor animosity towards him, evidenced by his consistent viewership of Maher’s program.

Maher reveals, “I don’t think he really hates me, because I think he… the amount of times that he goes after me, he watches the show.”

He continues, “‘Accidentally,’ it’s always ‘accidentally’ — he watches it accidentally every week. It’s amazing.”

Trump, however, has not taken kindly to Maher’s assessments. He has frequently taken to social media to deride Maher and his show, accusing him of bias and incompetence.

Trump’s responses only seem to affirm Maher’s assertions about the former president’s temperament and behavior.

Trump’s social media outbursts include, “Bill Maher is the worst! He never got it, and never will. Bad ratings, a big fail on CNN shot, major case of TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME", as well as “I actually watched, first time in a long time, ratings challenged Bill Maher’s really boring interview with RFK Jr last night, only to find that Junior’ is far more LIBERAL than Maher and, in fact, far more LIBERAL than anyone running as a Democrat, including [Cornel] West and [Jill] Stein.”
