According to their statement, investigators found human remains in a wooded area in the San Francisco Bay Area in their search for Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani Herrmann who had been missing since early December last year. “The identification of the human remains is pending DNA confirmation from the Contra Costa County Coroner’s Office,” the statement added.

'Foul play was involved' in Alice 'Alyx' Kamakaokalani Herrmann's disappearance

During the investigation into Herrmann’s disappearance, police said “it became clear that foul play was involved, leading to the identification of Theobald Lengyel as a suspect", as per a media release. The 54-year-old suspect was booked into the Santa Cruz County Jail on a first-degree murder charge, according to police.

As per USA Today, Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office records show Lengyel remained in jail without bond on Wednesday, January 3.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of the victim during this difficult time,” the police department said, adding that the case remains an “ongoing investigation.”

When was Alice 'Alyx' Kamakaokalani Herrmann last seen?

Herrmann, 61, was last seen in Santa Cruz, California, and had been missing since December 3, investigators with the El Cerrito Police Department said in a news release on December 16. Herrmann’s relatives reported her missing after not hearing from her for more than a week, the police department said.

Following her disappearance, investigators found her car outside Lengyel’s home in El Cerrito, California, and said that “based on his actions, Theo Lengyel is a person of interest in Alice Herrmann’s disappearance and has not cooperated with the police investigation.”

Investigators added that Lengyel was also believed to have driven from El Cerrito to Portland, Oregon “in the days following her disappearance.” Both his vehicle and Herrmann’s were taken into police custody.

Lengyel also goes by the stage name 'My Stone' from his time playing saxophone, clarinet, and keyboards as a member of Mr Bungle from 1985 until 1996. The suspect was featured on the band’s first two albums before leaving the group which featured a core of other band members who shared members with popular 1990s rock acts like 'Slayer', 'Anthrax', and 'Faith No More.'
