'They need to be bio IDd’: Internet backs Republicans call for fingerprinting immigrant children under 14
WASHINGTON, DC: Republicans are trying to pass a fresh bill that would mandate fingerprinting of children under 14 at the southern border to stop human traffickers from "using and abusing" youngsters.
Men who are not married are reportedly bringing children across the border by falsely claiming that they are family members, 'purchasing' them so that they may be processed more swiftly at immigration than if they crossed on their own.
In an interview with DailyMail.com, Representative Ashley Hinson stated, "What we're seeing is that these kids are literally being used and abused repeatedly because of President Biden's open border policies."
Republicans wants implementation of PRINTS Act
Under the PRINTS Act, immigrants under the age of 14 would have to provide their fingerprints. According to Representative Hinson of Iowa, enabling Custom and Border Protection (CBP) officers to identify trafficking victims will aid in the prevention of some of these "heinous crimes".
A total of 17,500 migrants were apprehended in the Tucson Sector in a single week, setting a new record.
"The situation at the southern border is genuinely humanitarian, and we must provide our border patrol agents with all the resources at our disposal," Hinson said.
Senate colleague Senator Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn, is leading the companion bill.
The effort comes as Alejandro Mayorkas, the secretary of Homeland Security (DHS), is being subpoenaed by House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, seeking papers and information on dangerous criminal immigrants who are permitted admission into the United States.
The DHS obstructed the committee's demands for months prior to issuing the subpoena for information.
Furthermore, as part of their demands for more stringent security measures along the southern border, Republican senators vetoed President Biden's proposal for $110 billion in aid to Israel, Taiwan, and Ukraine.
Internet reacts to Republicans pushing new bill
Many people on X reacted to the whole situation and shared their views.
A person wrote, "They don't even fingerprint them?" whereas another person commented, "Then they need to be bio IDd before they reach Mexico."
A user also wrote, "Great idea".
Senator Jim Risch, a Republican from Idaho, told DailyMail.com that 'political negotiations' are taking place to determine the next steps for a security package.
Although 'each side' has distinct objectives, he claimed that for Republicans, border concerns are 'top of the agenda'.
The senator stated that while assistance to Taiwan, Israel, and the Ukraine is necessary to go forward and that "we want to get it done," "we need to be concerned on our southern border first and foremost."
Then they need to be bio IDd before they reach Mexico.
