NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a surprise collaboration, pop icons Mariah Carey, Ariana Grande, and Jennifer Hudson joined forces on Saturday night, December 9, at Madison Square Garden for a powerhouse live rendition of 'Oh Santa!'

Carey, the headliner of the show and a self-proclaimed "Queen of Christmas," set the stage midway through her high-energy set of holiday favorites.

She teased, "This is unexpected but amazing," adding, "We have two very special Christmas angels here to sing a song called ‘Oh Santa!’ with me. And you wouldn’t believe it."

With that introduction, Grande and Hudson emerged to deafening cheers and launched into the upbeat 2010 Carey classic. The three songstresses traded verses and blended their legendary pipes in gorgeous harmonies, backed by Carey’s band.

Carey impressively hit the song’s trademark whistle tones as Hudson belted out the soulful ad-libs she’s revered for, and Grande provided her crystalline head voice. Their chemistry electrified both the audience and one another, with smiles stretching from ear to ear.

The surprise collaboration marked the live debut of the new trio on the song, which was released in updated form featuring Grande and Hudson on Carey’s 2020 Apple TV+ Christmas special.

Fans suspected something might be in store when both Grande and Hudson were spotted rehearsing with Carey earlier in the evening. But the magnitude of three of music’s most recognizable vocal talents sharing the same stage still drew gasps.

Carey's Christmas extravaganzas have been a tradition since 2014, commencing with her 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' mini-residencies at New York's Beacon Theatre. Expanding her holiday magic, she added a Las Vegas stint in 2017.

While performing exclusively in Europe the following year, she revived the show in North America in 2019. After a pause induced by the pandemic, Carey resumed her seasonal live shows in 2022, gracing New York and Toronto exclusively.

Presently headlining the Merry Christmas One and All! tour, Carey is set to enchant audiences in Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore next week before culminating the tour with a grand finale at MSG on December 17.
