MIAMI, FLORIDA: Will Smith's bold onstage antics at the Premio Lo Nuestro Awards have certainly caught the attention of fans; however, it was his noticeably puffy and stiff appearance that sparked debate online.

While his flirtatious behavior with singer India Martinez has become a hot topic online, a top plastic surgeon weighed in on the drastic changes to Smith's face seen at the Miami event.

The expert attributed the changes to weight gain and further suggested that the actor may have used dermal fillers as the speculations around Smith's drastic look continue to make headlines.

A top plastic surgeon has commented on Will Smith’s "puffy" appearance during his recent onstage performance.

Dr Michele Green, a New York-based cosmetic dermatologist, shared her thoughts on the actor's appearance with Daily Mail, suggesting that Smith may have used dermal fillers to combat aging skin.

She explained, “Dermal fillers are often used to replace lost volume. As we age, the structural support proteins in the skin deplete, leading to a hollow, gaunt appearance.”

“Dermal fillers can restore volume to these areas, creating a more youthful appearance,” Dr Green added.

However, she cautioned, “However, if too much filler is used, the individual will appear ‘over-filled’ and puffy. It is possible that Will Smith received too much dermal fillers.”

Popular dermal filler brands, such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Sculptra, are often used for such procedures because they are composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the skin.

Typically priced between $700 and $900 per syringe, depending on the provider and location, these fillers help plump the skin and can also be used for facial contouring, especially around areas like the jaw, chin, and cheeks.

Dr Michele Green explained how an increasing number of people are seeking to enhance their appearance, driven by the growing awareness of their looks, particularly due to social media.

She said, “With the rise of social media, more and more people - men as well as women - are becoming cognizant of their appearances and wish to make improvements.”

She further noted, “Many of these individuals will turn to non-invasive cosmetic procedures to subtly improve their appearance with minimal downtime.”

Dr Green added, “There is a professional advantage to appearing younger, especially for actors who are often on stage or in front of a camera.”

Addressing the potential cause of Smith's puffy appearance, Dr Green further suggested that if his changed look is the result of excessive filler use, there is an “easy fix.”

She explained that hyaluronidase, a naturally occurring enzyme, can dissolve fillers. By injecting hyaluronidase into the treated areas, it breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the filler, allowing the body to absorb and remove it.

“The effects of hyaluronidase are usually apparent after just 48 hours,” Dr Green said.

However, she cautioned that not all fillers are dissolvable. While products like Juvederm and Restylane can be broken down by hyaluronidase, fillers such as Sculptra and Radiesse cannot. In those cases, surgical removal may be required if the filler needs to be eliminated.
