DES MOINES, IOWA: Donald Trump's campaign has seized the opportunity and called out rival Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis' wife, Casey DeSantis, for an apparent blunder she made in an interview with Fox News.

She mistakenly asked out-of-state voters to "participate" in the Iowa caucus to support her husband.

Soon, many pointed out that Caey was promoting voter fraud because one must be an Iowa resident to be eligible for voter registration and voting purposes, according to the Iowa Secretary of State website. Therefore, non-Iowans participating in the January 15, 2024 Iowa caucus is illegal.

"The Trump campaign strongly condemns their dirty and illegal tactics and implores all Trump supporters to be aware of the DeSantises' openly stated plot to rig the Caucus through fraud," said the Trump campaign denouncing Casey's statement.

Trump campaign releases statement against the DeSantises accusing them of 'engaging in play-pretend politics'

Despite the First Lady of Florida clarifying her view, the Trump campaign issued a statement criticizing the Florida Governor and the First Lady of the State.

"Safe and secure elections are the bedrock of our democracy, and either the DeSantises are purposefully spreading false information or they are too uninformed about the Iowa Caucus to properly educate caucus-goers on how to participate in the process," read the statement, as per The Hill

It added, "These people have no idea what they're doing and are simply engaging in play-pretend politics."

The campaign also asked Iowa Gov Kim Reynolds, who endorsed DeSantis' presidential bid recently, to clarify the Iowa caucus rules and make understand the DeSantises about the same.

Referring to Casey's statement, the Trump campaign noted, "We're asking all of these moms and grandmoms to come from wherever it might be — North Carolina, South Carolina — and descend upon the state of Iowa to be a part of the caucus because you do not have to be a resident of Iowa to be able to participate in the caucus."

It continued, "The DeSantises specifically said they were calling on their campaign coalition groups of out-of-state, non-Iowa residents to illegally 'descend on the caucus' and try to cast a vote."

Casey DeSantis clarified her statement

After receiving severe backlash, Casey clarified the statement on X (formerly Twitter). Sharing a video of the interview, she wrote, "We've built a nationwide coalition of moms who are mobilized to help elect @RonDeSantis: Mamas for DeSantis."

Casey added, "While voting in the Iowa caucus is limited to registered voters in Iowa, there is a way for others to participate. I'm calling on mamas and grandmamas from all over the country to come volunteer in support of Ron DeSantis in the Iowa caucus."

Internet reacts to Trump campaign's statement about Casey DeSantis' blunder

Soon after the Donald Trump campaign's statement regarding Casey DeSantis' blunder came to light, netizens wasted no time sharing their thoughts regarding the situation.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his wife Casey DeSantis celebrate his victory over Democratic gubernatorial candidate Rep. Charlie Crist during an election night watch party at the Tampa Convention Center on November 8, 2022 in Tampa, Florida. DeSantis was the projected winner by a double-digit lead.

One said, "Team Trump acting like Casey DeSantis was trying to commit voter fraud is pure irony. Aren’t these the same ppl that set up illegal fake alternate electors?"

Another mocked, "Wait, fake elector scheme was illegal. Pray, tell what was J6 about?"

"Maga being Maga," added a person.

Someone else expressed, "The same people pretending to be outraged over Casey DeSantis saying out of state residents can volunteer to help out the campaign in the Iowa caucuses sure had nothing to say about Trump suggesting we should temporarily suspend the constitution of the United States. Weird."
