WASHINGTON, DC: Former president Donald Trump brought the heat to the Al Smith Dinner on Thursday night, October 17, delivering a sharp roast aimed at New York Mayor Eric Adams and his legal troubles.

As the audience erupted in laughter, it’s worth noting that New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been indicted for allegedly accepting bribes and soliciting illegal foreign donations for his election campaign, as revealed in a federal indictment unsealed. This marks the first time in modern history that a sitting New York mayor has faced criminal charges.

Donald Trump addresses Eric Adams' legal trouble

Following comedian Jim Gaffigan’s monologue, which included a quip about Eric Adams being “brought to you by Turkish Airlines,” Trump took to the stage.

With a cheeky grin, he addressed Adams directly: “Mayor Adams, good luck with everything. They went after you. They went after you, Mayor. Oh boy, I knew that. Nine and a half months ago, I said, you know, he just said something bad about the administration."

"He’s gonna be indicted any moment.’ And guess what happened? But you’re gonna win. I think you’re gonna win. I know you’re gonna win, so good luck. Good luck. I don’t like what they do. I don’t like what they do.”

Donald Trump indicted in additional two federal cases

In classic Donald Trump fashion, he turned the humor back to himself, saying, “It’s really a pleasure [to go] anywhere in New York without a subpoena for my appearance. Any time I don’t get a subpoena, I’m very happy.”

But the highlight of the night came when he turned his attention back to Adams, proclaiming, “They’ve gone after me. Mr Mayor, you’re peanuts compared to what they’ve done to me. And you’re gonna be ok.”

Trump was found guilty in May on 34 felony counts for falsifying business records to hide hush money payments related to extramarital affairs. Additionally, the former president has been indicted in two federal cases and is facing state charges in Georgia.
