CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Oprah Winfrey's endorsement of Democratic nominee Kamala Harris at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, August 21, drew strong backlash from conservatives over social media, who began sharing a note that she had written to GOP nominee Donald Trump back in 2000.

The letter was part of a book titled 'Letters to Trump', which was published by the former president in April 2023. In addition to Oprah, the book included correspondence from the likes of Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, Princess Diana, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, North Korea's Kim Jong-un, Mario Cuomo, Arnold Palmer, Jay Leno, Liza Minnelli, and Regis Philbin, as per Axios

The legendary talk show host wrote in her letter, "I have to tell you your comments made me a little weepy. It's one thing to try and live a life of integrity — still another to have people like yourself notice."

"Too bad we're not running for office. What a TEAM!" added Oprah in the postscript.

Oprah Winfrey's explanation for the letter she wrote to Donald Trump

During an interview with CBS Mornings in 2023, Oprah Winfrey shared her reason for writing the now-viral note to Donald Trump, saying, "I think he'd written a book and said that he wanted me to be his running mate ... if he decided to run."

She added, "And when I heard that this letter is now going to be a part of a book, I thought, 'Oh, wasn't that nice of me to write a note.' That's what I thought, because I'm always like, 'Oh, I should write a note. The person did this, or I should write a note.' So I'm really happy that I wrote a note."

However, the talk show host clarified that she had since shifted her stance, stating, "I might have thought it back then. I might have thought it 23 years ago. I'm not thinking it today."

Oprah Winfrey rallies for Kamala Harris at the DNC

The legendary television presenter threw her support behind Kamala Harris on the third night of the DNC in her hometown of Chicago.

She addressed the issue of the vice president's biracial identity, which has been used by the GOP nominee and his MAGA supporters as a point of attack, and even criticized the Republicans' strong anti-immigrant stance, pointing out that Harris, the daughter of immigrant parents, is within reach of the nation's top office.

In her speech, she hailed Harris as an inspiration for future generations, saying, "Soon and very soon, we're going to be teaching our daughters and sons about how this child on an Indian mother and a Jamaican father, two idealistic energetic immigrants- how this child grew up to become the 47th President of the United States. That is the best of America."

Oprah Winfrey's takedown of Donald Trump and his MAGA movement

"We are Americans. Let us choose loyalty to the Constitution over loyalty to any individual because that's the best of America. And let us choose optimism over cynicism, because that's the best of America, " expressed Oprah Winfrey at the DNC, throwing shade at Donald Trump and his MAGA supporters.

She continued, "And let us choose inclusion over retribution, let us choose common sense over nonsense because that's the best of America. And let us choose the sweet promise of tomorrow over the bitter return to yesterday. We won’t go back. We won’t be set back. Pushed back. Bullied back. Kicked back. We’re not going back.”

As the crowd started enthusiastically chanting, "We're not going back!" Oprah proceeded to say, "Let us choose truth, let us choose honor, and let us choose joy, because that's the best of America. But more than anything else let us choose freedom, why? Because that's the best of America. We're all Americans, and together, let us choose Kamala Harris!"

Donald Trump's supporters fume as Oprah Winfrey shows up at the DNC

MAGA supporters reacting to Oprah Wifrey's speech at the DNC trolled her for switching her stance on Donald Trump and accused her of being "bought" by the Democrats.

One wrote, "Everyone on the DNC stage is bought and paid for by the establishment. Bunch of good little bootlickers," and another said, "They're all paid actors. Not just for screenwriters, but for the Democratic Party/Blob machine."

"I said it too, she's fake!" echoed a person, sharing a copy of the letter. "They all got TDS as soon as he ran as a Republican. More bigotry," noted an individual.

Another person remarked, "Billionaire and liar, Oprah Winfrey."
