LONG ISLAND, NEW YORK: A 28-year-old woman from New York, along with her 28-year-old boyfriend, have been found guilty of the murder of her 5-year-old son, King Owusu.

The child was subjected to severe beatings with multiple weapons, and they neglected to seek medical assistance for several days, ultimately resulting in his death.

After the investigation, Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae are slated to return to court for their sentencing hearing on May 1, 2024.

They currently face a sentence of 25 years to life in a state detention facility as per Law&Crime. As a result of their actions, Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae could be sentenced to decades in prison.

Couple found guilty of killing young King Owusu

In Suffolk County, Valerie Owusu and Emmanuel Addae were found guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of young King Owusu in 2021, as announced by authorities following a two-and-a-half-week trial before Supreme Court Justice Steven A Pilewski.

District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney stated, "This little boy was beaten and suffered for days at the hands of these defendants, one of whom was his mother until he unfortunately succumbed to his severe and extensive injuries."

According to a news release from the DA’s office, Owusu and Addae used multiple instruments to brutally beat King inside their apartment in Lefrak City, Queens, for three days from March 30 to April 1, 2021.

Prosecutors revealed that following the vicious assault on the defenseless boy, the couple observed as King's physical condition deteriorated over several days until he lost consciousness.

Despite this, Owusu and Addae neglected to seek medical help for the boy.

Instead, they opted to take him to Addae's parents' home in an apartment in Long Island, New York.

Autopsy report revealed 'numerous' injuries on child's body

Prosecutors alleged that on April 1, 2021, Owusu and Addae left King at a family member’s residence in Brentwood, where he was later discovered deceased by the family member upon their return home.

Suffolk County Police Department responded to the incident and the child's body was taken to Southside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

After leaving the child at the family member's home, Owusu and Addae returned to Queens and took their daughter to the mall for shopping.

During a search of their residence, authorities reportedly found a belt and several broken sticks believed to have been used in the brutal attack.

The medical examiner, who performed the autopsy on King, testified during trial saying that the child “was beaten from head to toe and that his injuries, which were too numerous to count, caused his death.”
