Drake has confirmed that his 2016 hit song 'Too Good' was inspired by Serena Williams, putting an end to years of speculation about a romance between the two stars.

The 37-year-old Canadian rapper surprised fans by releasing 100 gigabytes of previously unseen footage from his archives on Tuesday.

This treasure trove included behind-the-scenes content from recording sessions for some of his most well-known tracks. Among the clips was a revealing moment that showed his 2016 Rihanna-featured hit 'Too Good' was written about the tennis star, Serena Williams.

In one clip, Drake is seen working on 'Too Good' in the recording studio when his mother, Sandi Graham, asks about the references to his past relationships in his songs. Drake responded, “I get heavy on a couple joints but this is more about me and Serena” to which Sandi replied, “I gathered that!”

Drake goes on to explain that when he writes songs about women, he aims to create something they would appreciate. “When I make songs about women, I also make songs for them so I know what kind of song to make,” he said. “If I’m gonna talk about them, I’ll at least do them the justice of making them a song that they like, okay?”

He reassured his mother that Serena’s feelings would be taken into consideration, saying, “I know Serena very well, and I know she’ll hear it loud and clear, but she won’t hate me for it because it’s lighthearted.”

Sandi humorously interjects, reminding Drake, “She is seeing someone else,” likely referring to Serena’s now-husband, Alexis Ohanian, whom she began dating in 2015. Drake responds with a laugh, “I don’t know, mom.”

Drake's album views dropped in April 2016, and later that year, he and Rihanna achieved a hit with the track 'Too Good.' Released as a single from the album, the song climbed to No 14 on the Billboard Hot 100 by September.

The track includes the lyrics, "I’m too good to you / I’m way too good to you / You take my love for granted / I just don’t understand it."

The five-time Grammy winner also mentioned her in his 2013 song 'Worst Behavior.'
