BETHESDA, MARYLAND: President Joe Biden found himself in hot water after he accused former President Donald Trump of embracing his “old pal” Vladimir Putin by quoting him during a New Hampshire campaign rally.

The 81-year-old president was addressing donors at a closed-door event with Democratic Maryland Gov Wes Moore in Bethesda on Tuesday, December 19 when he said “the future of American democracy” is at stake in next year’s election.

“This weekend Trump was embracing his old pal Putin. Trump even quoted him this weekend. That’s no surprise. After all, there’s a lot of agreement between Moscow and Mar-a-Lago,” Biden further remarked at the campaign reception, according to the Hill.

The president accused 77-year-old Trump of “embracing his old pal” Putin, seemingly alluding to a campaign address in New Hampshire where Trump referenced Putin's comments on four criminal cases that are still pending against him.

“The language he uses reminds us of the language coming out of Germany in the ’30s,” Biden said to a room of about 120 donors.

“He has called those who oppose him ‘vermin,’ and again this weekend, he talked about the blood of our country being poisoned. Even conservative Republicans have spoken out,” he continued.

What did Trump say at his New Hampshire campaign rally?

Trump cited Putin on Saturday, claiming that Biden's "persecution" for political reasons "shows the rottenness of the American political system."

He also claimed immigrants were “pouring into” the United States and “poisoning the blood of our country.” “All over the world they’re coming into our country. From Africa, from Asia, all over the world,” the Republican primary frontrunner said.

Vice President Harris has also criticized the remarks, claiming that they are reminiscent of Adolf Hitler's speech about Jews corrupting German blood.

Republicans have also stated that Trump went too far with his incendiary remarks. Earlier on Tuesday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky) stated, "It strikes me that didn't bother him when he appointed Elaine Chao the secretary of Transportation."

Internet reacts to Joe Biden’s remarks

After Biden’s remarks surfaced on social media, many users blasted him for accusing Trump of embracing “old pal” Vladimir Putin.

“What a deflection and a projection,” one user said. “Big talk from a guy whose whole family is aligned with Ukraine’s dirty money. Biden’s Beach House will soon become Zelensky’s War Room,” a second user slammed.

“I wouldn't trust Biden to run my local gas station, much less the country. He's a proven liar and is as corrupt as they come. Couldn't give a crap about what he says about anything,” a third fumed.

“This coming from the guy that mentioned airplanes, WWII, and Jesus in the same sentence?” a user mocked while another said, “Biden is an enemy of the people… Biden and weak people are aligned … He sold us to everyone.”

“Ah, the Moscow/Mar-a-Lago Alliance! Is he out of his f****** mind?” someone asked. “I'd vote for Putin over Biden,” another stated.
