‘When hell freezes over’: Internet mocks Donald Trump as he says there is ‘very good chance’ he’ll win NY
BRONX, NEW YORK: Former President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Thursday, May 23, about his chances of winning New York, a state that hasn’t voted for a Republican presidential candidate in 40 years.
Trump seemed optimistic that the historically Democratic state could swing his way in the upcoming polls after attending a rally at South Bronx.
Donald Trump says 'I love people of New York'
After the rally, 'Fox & Friends' co-host Lawrence Jones asked Donald Trump why he chose to hold a rally in the heart of New York City where President Joe Biden had a significant lead in 2020.
“Well, because I’ve done very well with the vote. I love the people," he responded to the question.
"They’re incredible, they’re energetic, they’re entrepreneurial, and they’re gonna save New York, and we’re gonna win New York. And if we win New York, the election’s over," he added, according to The Hill.
“I think we have a chance to win in New York. It hasn’t been done in, you know, many, many decades as a Republican. I think we have a very good chance," Trump said.
Donald Trump’s appeal to Black and Hispanic voters
Trump’s rally was held in one of the city’s most diverse neighborhoods, the Bronx, in an attempt to court Black and Hispanic voters.
The event drew a surprisingly large crowd with his campaign estimating that 25,000 people came to see him at Crotona Park.
This number reportedly far exceeded the 3,500 that were initially expected to attend.
Even CNN reported on the crowd numbers with one reporter at the scene saying it was "certainly a bigger crowd than I think Democrats would like to see, particularly given this is one of the bluest counties in the entire country," according to Newsweek.
Jones, who is Black, told Trump there were more people at the rally who “look like me than you,” and later said that Trump’s support is increasing among Black and Hispanic voters.
"I did things in office that nobody else has done, criminal justice reform. I did criminal justice reform at a level that nobody thought was possible to get. And I did that largely for the Black and Hispanic community, they’re the ones that wanted it,” Trump said.
Internet gives hilarious reactions to Donald Trump’s claim of winning New York
The internet took a hilarious jibe at Trump’s New York win claim. One user wrote, “I have a very good chance of marrying Margot Robbie!” Another user wrote, “Ummm… let’s change that to NO chance.”
Yet another user wrote, “I have a good chance of taking Jeff Bezos' spot on the world’s richest list.”
“Never going to happen. New York is blue and will remain that way,” wrote one more.
"When he'll freezes over," wrote another. “And there’s also a ‘very good chance’ that Trump will go to prison,” wrote one more user.

Despite Trump’s optimism, the odds seem stacked against him. According to a Siena College poll conducted in May, 13-15 of 1,191 registered voters, Biden leads Trump 47 percent to 38 percent in the state by just nine points.
Biden won the state by 23 points in 2020 with more than 60 percent of the vote. The poll showed that Biden is down 20 points in New York City and Trump has gained seven points compared to 2020 numbers.
However, Trump has marginally grown his projected share of the vote in the state since the last two Siena College polls in April and February.
