SOUTH CHARLESTON, OHIO: William Brock, 81, from Ohio has been charged with murder after admitting to shooting an Uber driver who fell victim to a scam orchestrated by fraudulent callers.

The fatal encounter unfolded in South Charleston on March 25, around 11.25 am, leaving Uber delivery driver Lo-Letha M Hall, 61, fatally wounded. Brock disclosed to authorities that he had been receiving threatening calls from scammers demanding money in the weeks leading up to the altercation.

The scam reportedly involved a message sent via the Uber app instructing Hall to pick up a package at Brock's residence.

Upon her arrival, Hall, as stated by the police, "made no threats or assaults" but merely inquired about the package, according to the Daily Mail. In a startling turn of events, Brock brandished a gun, fearing harm from Hall, and demanded information about the sender.

The disturbing incident, captured on Hall's dashcam, revealed a harrowing scene where Brock not only shot her but also confiscated her phone, preventing her from seeking help. Despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds, including to her torso, leg, knee, and sternum, Hall succumbed to her injuries during surgery at a local hospital.

Brock's decision to withhold calling 911 until after the shooting, because there was "no active threat presented by Ms Hall at any time during the encounter," led to his arrest and subsequent murder charges. He asserted to authorities that Hall had attacked him after the shooting, prompting him to shoot her again in self-defense, a claim contested by the investigation.

"He provided he didn't want to shoot her but he thought she was going to kill him," the incident report stated. While Brock has posted a $200,000 bail, the incident remains under investigation, with the possibility of further charges pending.
