MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: On the December 21 episode of 'Late Night With Seth Meyers', the host took a closer look at the Colorado Supreme Court ruling disqualifying Donald Trump from the 2024 presidential race, citing his violation of the Constitution through engagement in insurrection against the United States.

The ruling establishes a historical precedent by using Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to disqualify a presidential candidate from the ballot. In this instance, the disqualified candidate is the most popular Republican candidate, widely expected to win the election by a substantial margin.

“The Colorado Supreme Court ruled yesterday that former President Trump is ineligible to run again for president, while the Florida Supreme Court ruled he already won,” Meyers quipped.

Meyers suggested that if he was a Republican, he would "personally be slightly more focused on nominating a candidate for president who is eligible to run in all 50 states."

"Oh, man, I wish I could have seen Trump's reaction when he heard the news. He probably had... -...poopy pants! -And....when Trump gets that, he doesn't have a backup pair," Meyers added.

In a humorous exchange, Meyers impersonated Trump and Ted Cruz where the former asks the latter for his pants, leading to Cruz questioning what he will wear. The response, still in Trump's persona, suggests wearing the shame of his father's crimes.

"Donald Trump is disqualified from the ballot in Colorado, which would explain the sudden emergence of a mysterious new candidate who announced he was entering the race last night -- a guy named Ronald Bump", he added.

'We are mindful of our solemn duty'

According to The New York Post, in a groundbreaking decision, Colorado's highest court declared on December 19 that Trump is ineligible for future office due to his involvement in the Capitol insurrection on January 6.

This pivotal ruling may shape the 2024 election, as it invokes Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, disqualifying individuals engaged in insurrection after pledging to uphold the Constitution—an argument echoed by Trump's opponents nationwide. The stage is now set for a legal showdown in the US Supreme Court.

The directive orders the Colorado secretary of state to omit Trump's name from the state's GOP primary ballot, but it sidesteps the general election question.

“We do not reach these conclusions lightly,” a four-justice majority wrote, with three justices dissenting. "We are mindful of the magnitude and weight of the questions now before us. We are likewise mindful of our solemn duty to apply the law, without fear or favor, and without being swayed by public reaction to the decisions that the law mandates we reach.”
