What is autism?
Autism Speaks defines autism spectrum disorder (ASD) as "a broad range of conditions characterized by challenges with social skills, repetitive behaviors, speech and nonverbal communication." Signs of autism usually present around ages two to three, per the organisation.
However, signs can be missed because autism is a spectrum and pediatricians may want to give a patient time to develop before making a diagnosis, as stated by Child Mind Institute.
