MENDHAM TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY: Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie sparked a furious backlash as he laid into Donald Trump after he quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin and said, "immigrants were poisoning the blood of our country."

On Sunday, December 17, Christie appeared on CNN’s 'State of the Union' where he told host Jake Tapper that the 77-year-old Former President is only getting 'crazier' through the 2024 election.

“He gets worse and worse by the day, Jake, and voters better start paying attention to exactly what he's saying,” the anti-Trump candidate said, according to Daily Mail.

Christie then expressed his displeasure with Trump quoting Russian President Vladimir Putin during a campaign rally speech in New Hampshire on Saturday, December 17.

“Donald Trump realizes the walls are closing in. He's becoming crazier. And now he's citing Vladimir Putin as a character witness, a guy who is a murderous thug all around the world.”

Trump attacked the former governor of New Jersey during those same rally remarks, asking 'does he have nothing better to do' than run for president despite his dismal polling numbers.

“Please do not call Chris Christie a fat pig, okay? It's not appropriate, because you're not allowed to use the word fat. You can use the word pig,” he sarcastically quipped.

Why Chris Christie attacked Nikki Haley?

Further in the interview, Christie targeted fellow 2024 contestant Haley, who trails Trump by barely 15 points in second place in New Hampshire.

He asserted that Haley ought to be denouncing Trump more harshly and that she is not doing enough already.

Christie called the former president "disgusting," asserting that he is placing the blame for current global wars and economic hardships "on people from areas that don't look like us."

“The other problem with this is the Republicans who are saying this is okay. Almost 100 members of Congress have endorsed him, including Nikki Haley, who this week said he is fit to be president,” he added.

The Republican candidate continued by stating that Haley “should be ashamed of herself and she's part of the problem because she's enabling him.”

“She's enabling him by saying to people, it's okay. Let me be really clear. I'm in this race to let people know it's not okay. It's not okay for an American president to be saying these things. And she should be ashamed of herself,” he continued.

Internet reacts to Chris Christie’s remarks

Christie’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for claiming that Trump is only getting 'crazier' through the 2024 election.

“You losing by more and more….lol,” one user trolled. “Chris Christy is a pathetic petty pathological liar!” the second user slammed.

“He's the same guy he's always been, he just keeps upping his game to distract from what he's done. DJT works from a script, every move is choreographed in order to convince & he has an army to back him. Worked on 1/6 didn't it?” the third user fumed.

“So you believe Chris Christie now?” the fourth user mocked while the fifth one wrote, “Christie says? Christie says a lot of BS.”

“Lol, he's just looking for free food on the campaign trail. Isn't it about time he got a job, when was the last time he won an election...” one more said.
