WASHINGTON, DC: The White House wasn’t about to let the longest government shutdown in US history end quietly. They decided to bring the sombrero memes back for one last fiesta.

After 43 days, the longest government shutdown in US history finally ended on Friday. President Donald Trump signed a stopgap funding bill that keeps the lights on at least until late January.

Federal workers are finally relieved and national parks can reopen without volunteers picking up trash, but the Trump administration went a step further than taking a humble victory lap.

Just hours after the government reopened, the White House social media account blasted a sombrero meme compilation to Sarah McLachlan’s “I Will Remember You.” The post mainly roasted top Democrats, Rep Hakeem Jeffries and Sen Chuck Schumer. “RIP DEMOCRAT SHUTDOWN. Oct 1, 2025 – Nov 12, 2025,” it was captioned.

Here’s a look back at the top 10 memes that had Democrats fuming.

1. Viral AI video featuring Chuck Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries

A deepfake video posted by Trump himself showed a fake Chuck Schumer giving a self-owning speech, while Hakeem Jeffries stood next to him decked out with a sombrero, mustache, and blaring mariachi music.

“There’s no way to sugarcoat it, nobody likes Democrats anymore," the AI-Schumer declared. "We have no voters left because of our woke, trans bullst. Not even Black people wanna vote for us anymore, even Latinos hate us. So we need new votes. And if we give all these illegal aliens free healthcare, we might be able to get them on our side so they can vote for us. They can’t even speak English, so they won’t realize we’re just a bunch of woke pieces of st.”

2. 'MySafeSpace' parody site

Then came a fake government website that looked way too real. The White House comms team rolled out a parody page titled “MySafeSpace,” complete with fake profiles for Schumer and Jeffries. Their listed “interests” included “DEI” and “taxpayer benefits for illegal immigrants.” The bio section dubbed Jeffries the “Dollar Store Obama” and “Temu Obama.”

3. The 'grim reaper' sequence

The White House meme machine also went a bit dark with a deepfake of budget director Russell Vought dressed as the Grim Reaper to the Blue Oyster Cult classic '(Don't Fear) The Reaper.' The message was that the administration wasn’t bluffing about budget cuts if the shutdown dragged on.

4. Halloween at 1600 Penn

One doctored clip showed Donald and Melania Trump handing out sombreros as Halloween treats to Schumer and Jeffries lookalikes on the White House lawn.

5. Jeffries gets the sombrero treatment again

When Hakeem Jeffries went on MSNBC to denounce the fake sombrero video, Trump reposted a “new” version of the clip that slapped the sombrero and mustache right back on Jeffries’ head, while accompanied by four animated Trumps playing mariachi music.

6. 'Almost Friday' sombrero

In another meme, the White shared a crayon colored drawing of a sombrero with the title 'Almost Friday' in a jab at Democrats failing to reopen the government. "Our social media manager was furloughed, but... Almost Friday," the caption read.

7. SpongeBob joins the party

The White House even channeled some SpongeBob SquarePants energy in their memes. One of the closing compilation memes showed SpongeBob in a sombrero, reading a note that repeated, “Give free healthcare to illegals.”

8. The sombrero at 1600

Another meme posted by the White House showed a sombrero sitting proudly in front of the White House itself. It was embroidered with the words, “Trump was right about everything.”

9. 'King Trump' drops the sludge

In October, during the shutdown, Trump posted an AI-video of himself wearing a crown and flying a fighter jet labeled “KING TRUMP.” Below him was a crowd of “No Kings” protesters that he splattered with brown sludge.

During a tense Oval Office meeting amid the shutdown, Trump shared photos showing top Democrats in discussion while a couple of “Trump 2028” hats were sitting on the desk.
