6 wild moments from GOP's Oversight Committee hearing into Hunter Biden subpoena
6 chaotic moments from House Oversight Committee hearing on Hunter Biden subpoena
The Republican-controlled House of Representatives held an Oversight Committee hearing on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, on whether to hold Hunter Biden in contempt of Congress for defying a subpoena in December 2023. President Joe Biden's son made a surprise appearance in the hearing room, astonishing both Republicans and his father's advisers. However, not much was done during the hearing and the GOP members ended up making wild swings against Biden. Here are the six wildest moments from the hearing.
Rep Nancy Mace stated Hunter Biden has 'no balls'
Biden's surprise visit infuriated South Carolina congresswoman Nancy Mace. Recognizing his presence in the hearing room, she asked, "My first question is, who bribed Hunter Biden to be here today?" However, Mace's outrage did not end there. Calling Biden an "epitome of White privilege," she added, "Coming into the Oversight Committee, spitting in our face, ignoring a congressional subpoena to be deposed. What are you afraid of? You have no b***s to come up here today."
Hunter Biden walked out on Marjorie Taylor Greene
Hunter Biden abruptly walked out of the hearing room soon after Mace's criticism. His exit coincided with Georgia lawmaker Marjorie Taylor Greene being called to speak on the resolution and called for him to be held in contempt of Congress. "Excuse me, Hunter. Apparently, you're afraid of my word," MTG said as the First Son left the hearing. "Wow, that's too bad. I think it's clear and obvious for everyone watching this hearing today that Hunter Biden is terrified of strong conservative Republican women because he can't even face my words, as I was about to speak to him." She later slammed Huntervby calling him a "coward".
Rep Robert Garcia's bizarre reason why Hunter Biden left the room
Democratic Rep Robert Garcia had pretty good reasoning for why Hunter Biden left as soon as MTG started speaking. "I think it's really interesting to hear the gentlelady from Georgia speak about Hunter Biden leaving when she is the person that showed nude photos of Hunter Biden in this very committee room," Garcia said, adding, "Showing d**k picks in this committee room of Hunter Biden!" The congressman was referring to a July 2023 House Oversight Committee where Greene tried to prove Hunter's engagement in sex trafficking by holding up poster-size prints of his nude photos. She later shared the images on X.
Jamie Raskin calls Marjorie Taylor Greene 'expert' in pornography
Maryland Rep Jamie Raskin took a jab at Greene for sharing Hunter Biden's nude photos. "In the past, she's displayed pornography. Are pornographic photos allowed to be displayed in this committee room?" the congressman asked. When MTG responded it wasn't pornography, Raskin retorted, "OK, well, you're the expert." He had previously criticized the Georgia lawmaker for showing the First Son's nude photos during a hearing by saying the Committee has "reduced to the level of a 1970s-era dime store peep show."
Rep Jared Moskowitz held up Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein's photo
When the Committee took a break from the hearing, Florida congressman Jared Moskowitz held up a poster-size picture of GOP frontrunner and former president Donald Trump side-hugging late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Rep Maxwell Frost shared the moment from the hearing on X, captioning it, "We had to pause Committee because Marjorie Taylor Greene is being unhinged. While we wait, @JaredEMoskowitz is holding this up." Trump's name was on the list of the recently released Epstein files. However, there is no proof of any legal wrongdoing.
Republicans abstain from raising hands as Rep Jared Moskowitz calls for Hunter Biden's testimony
By the end of the hearing filled with crazy moments, Rep Jared Moskowitz asked the Committee for a show of hands who wanted to hear Biden's testimony. But almost no Republicans raised their hands. "I'm a visual learner," the congressman quipped, before adding, "And the visual is clear. Nobody over there wants to hear from the witness. The majority of my colleagues over there, including the chairman, don't want to hear from the witness with the American people watching."
