The first night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, Illinois, might haunt former President Donald Trump for quite some time. Apart from celebrating the service of President Joe Biden, Democrats, including his former presidential rivals and youthful congressional Democrats, used the occasion to roast the GOP presidential nominee. Here are the seven best zingers directed at the ex-POTUS on DNC Day 1.

1. President Joe Biden does not want a 'convicted felon' in Oval Office

President Joe Biden's DNC address was more of a farewell speech as he passed the torch to Vice President Kamala Harris. Nevertheless, he did not refrain from taking digs at his former opponent, Donald Trump. The POTUS emphasized the GOP nominee's criminal conviction in the New York hush money trial. He claimed that the murder rates went up during Trump's presidency, before assuring that it had subsided under the present administration. Then came the roasting as he said, "Violent crime has dropped to the lowest level of more than 50 years. And crime will keep coming down when we put a prosecutor in the Oval Office instead of a convicted felon." Click here to watch Biden take a swipe at Trump over his criminal conviction at the DNC.

2. Rep Jasmine Crockett says Donald Trump's resume is a 'rap sheet'

Rep Jasmine Crockett made a fiery speech on the DNC floor, drawing a comparison between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump's resumes. Similar to Joe Biden, she also referred to the former president's convictions. "America, looking at the two choices before you, who would you hire: Donald Trump or Kamala Harris?" the Texas congresswoman asked a raucous crowd. "Kamala Harris has a resume. Donald Trump has a rap sheet. She presides over the Senate, while he keeps our national secrets next to his thinking chair," added Crockett, referring to classified documents found at the GOP nominee's Mar-a-Lago residence. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who lost the presidential election to Donald Trump in 2016, took a sweet revenge while speaking at the DNC. She, too, highlighted the former president's historic felony conviction, mockingly mentioning that he fell asleep during the trial at the Manhattan courthouse. "Kamala locked up murderers and drug traffickers. She will never rest in defense of our freedom and safety," remarked Clinton, adding, "Donald Trump fell asleep at his own trial ― and when he woke up, he made his own kind of history: the first person to run for president with 34 felony convictions." She also succeeded in igniting a "lock him up" chant from the crowd, flipping the script from Trump supporter's "lock her up" roar in 2016. Sen Raphael Warnock had one of the most hard-hitting zingers on Donald Trump. Speaking at the DNC, the Baptist pastor said, "People who have no vision, traffic, and division. He does not know how to lead us, so he wants to divide us. America make no mistake, Donald Trump is a plague on the American conscience." Warnock, who represents Georgia in the Senate, also brought up Trump's $60 'God Bless The USA Bible' business and suggested the ex-president "should try reading it." Rep Jamies Raskin recalled the January 6 Capitol riot while speaking about Donald Trump at the DNC. However, his taunts seemed more indirect when compared to other speakers. The Maryland lawmaker used the DNC platform to warn Trump's running mate, JD Vance, about his future, reminding him of what his "predecessor" Mike Pence endured during the Capitol attack. Trump supporters reportedly chanted "Hang Mike Pence" on January 6, 2021, while storming the Capitol building. Giving Vance an insight into why he was picked as Trump's running mate, Raskin said, "And by the way, JD Vance, do you understand why there was a sudden job opening for running mate on the GOP ticket? They tried to kill your predecessor! They tried to kill him because he would not follow Trump's plan to destroy and nullify the votes of millions of Americans."
