Alec Baldwin accused of firing blank at 'Rust' crew in firearm negligence before Halyna Hutchins shooting
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Prosecutors in New Mexico are alleging that Alec Baldwin displayed reckless behavior with firearms on the set of the movie 'Rust' before the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
According to legal documents obtained by TMZ, Baldwin's negligence with a firearm was evident even before the tragic incident occurred.
Alec Baldwin's gun safety practices questioned by prosecutors
The prosecution claims that Baldwin's handling of the gun was consistently careless. They assert that he once pointed and fired a blank round at a crew member while using the crew member as a line of sight.
Additionally, Baldwin is accused of using the gun as a pointer when directing crew members and firing the revolver after filming was completed and "cut" was called.
Moreover, prosecutors allege that Baldwin filmed several scenes with his finger on the trigger, even when the scene did not call for gunfire.
They also claim Baldwin would rush the armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, to reload the gun and pressured crew members to work at a faster pace. His inattention during firearm training sessions, where he allegedly texted or FaceTimed his family, is also highlighted in the documents.
The prosecution further claims that Baldwin exhibited erratic and aggressive behavior on set, engaging in horseplay with the gun. Following the fatal shooting, when 'Rust' resumed filming in Montana, Baldwin allegedly insisted on not following safety recommendations.
Baldwin is set to face one count of involuntary manslaughter and is expected to appear in a New Mexico courthouse for the start of his trial in July. Despite his attempts to have the case dismissed, Baldwin has not succeeded and has pled not guilty to the charges.
