NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded sharply to recent comments made by Sen JD Vance (R-Ohio) who defended his past criticisms of Democrats being “antifamily.”

Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate reiterated his stance during appearances on three Sunday morning political shows on August 11, according to The Hill.

Sen JD Vance says he's 'pro-family'

Speaking about policies such as expansion of child tax credit and barring surprise medical bills, JD Vance said, "I'm pro-family."

“I want us to have more families. And obviously, sometimes it doesn’t work out, sometimes for medical reasons, sometimes because you don’t meet the right person," he added.

"But the point is that our country has become antifamily in its public policy," Vance told CNN.

Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez lists pro-family policies

In response, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez took to X (formerly Twitter) to outline several pro-family policies proposed by Democrats, including expanding healthcare access, raising the minimum wage, and offering paid parental leave.

In her post, the New York Democrat wrote, “If Vance is so fixated on who has kids, he must support pro-family policies, right?”

“Oh right, he doesn’t. He just wants an excuse to surveil & subjugate women,” she added.

AOC's retort highlights the ongoing tension between the two politicians, particularly after Vance's 2021 remarks in which he referred to the congresswoman as a "childless cat lady" and accused her of having a “sociopathic attitude towards families.”

Sen JD Vance's family policy under fire

JD Vance, who has made family policy a cornerstone of his ongoing vice presidential campaign, has faced significant pushback from Democrats.

This criticism was reignited last week when Vance voted against an expansion of the child tax credit, a measure supported by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

Schumer seized on the controversy following the Ohio senator's remarks, bringing the measure up for a vote despite very little chance of it passing.

On the floor of the Senate, Schumer said, “Senate Republicans love to talk about how they are the party of family and business. So it’s very odd to see them come out so aggressively against expanding the child tax credit and rewarding business with the [research and development] tax credit.”

Internet doubles down on Rep AOC hitting back at Sen JD Vance's attack against Democrats

As Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back at JD Vance's remarks of Democrats being "antifamily," netizens doubled down on the congresswoman's criticism of the vice presidential candidate.

One user on X wrote, "Well said and spot on!" while another individual penned, "He wants things that will actually work and be sustainable. You socialism is showing."

Someone tweeted, "There is nothing pro family about MAGA or the GOP."

"He wants things that will actually work and be sustainable. You socialism is showing," a netizen commented and an individual remarked, "AOC is jealous because she hasn't been getting any attention lately."

Another added, "None of the things you listed have helped families."
