Andrew Scott talks 'All of Us Strangers' filming and dishes on 'Hot Priest' role in 'Fleabag' on Seth Meyers' show
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Andrew Scott, famous for his role as the 'Hot Priest' in 'Fleabag', has received notable acclaim for his latest performance.
On the January 12 episode of 'Late Night With Seth Meyers', Scott opened up about being tagged as the hot priest and his experience filming a non-villainous role in 'All Of Us Strangers.'
Andrew Scoot reveals having 'this kind of darkness inside'
After a grand round of applause for the actor, Meyers said, "I heard that one of the reasons you said yes to 'Fleabag' and playing the hot priest is that you had actually been sort of playing villains and wanted to break free of the villain roles."
"Yeah, so, when I was in my 20s, I had a little baby -- little Irish, baby, little puppy -- little face. And I really felt like I had this kind of darkness inside me," replied Scott.
Scott expressed his initial frustration about not getting roles as a villain, but eventually, opportunities arose. He remembered pondering on the perception of others questioning, "Why can't I get a... Why can't people see the real me?"
He then revealed, "Phoebe and I had previously worked together in a play in London that nobody saw. Then she reached out, and that's how the role in 'The Priest' came about."
Further in the conversation, Colbert compliments Scott on his acting skills, noting the contrast between his villainous role in 'Sherlock' as Moriarty and the charming character in 'Fleabag' as the Hot Priest.
Scott made a clarification saying, "The character was called Priest, you know, and then it was -- it was -- it was these filthy people that did it," attributing the tag 'hot priest' to the influence of the internet and not Phoebe's.
Talks about un-hot scenes
Colbert and Scott's conversation then reeled on to the latter's "un-hot" scenes from the movie 'All Of Us Strangers,' with Colbert mentioning how Scott was wearing child-sized pajamas, which adds a heartbreaking element to the scene.
"You know those polyester pajamas that you have when you're a child and you have such a -- I just looked ridiculous. Talk about un-hot. Un-hot", Scott said to pad up Colbert's claims, adding, "There was no Hot Priest there, but, yeah it seems absurd, but it was, it's very moving."
The conversation then shifts to the reception of the film, with Scott expressing that the movie is difficult to talk about but is well-received.
Regarding the movie, Scott emphasized, "It's sort of cathartic and moving. It's very emotional. It's about families. And people just love that. People like a good cry in the cinema, I agree. You know, and there's a bit of romance in there, and it's really, really beautiful. So please just go and see it."
'All of Us Strangers' had a limited release in the United States on December 22, 2023, and is scheduled for release in the United Kingdom on January 26, 2024.
