FRANKFORT, KENTUCKY: Andy Beshear, who has been speculated to become the running mate of Kamala Harris if she runs in the 2024 election, has shared an apology to Mountain Dew after inadvertently belittling the drink brand while taking a swipe at Senator JD Vance (R-Ohio).

On Thursday, July 25, the governor of Kentucky said during a press conference, as reported by the HuffPost, “Folks, I’ve been a person that when sometimes I’ve gone over the line, I’ve wanted to make sure that I set the record straight, so, I do owe an apology to Diet Mountain Dew. Ale-8One is definitely the soft drink of Kentucky. But I don’t believe the government should be making your decisions.”

Andy Beshear also solemnly pulled out a plastic bottle of the drink. He further stated, “So if you enjoy Diet Mountain Dew, you be you, we want to support you. And to Diet Mountain Dew, very sorry, didn’t mean to say negative things about you.”

“Just remember, I am from here just like everybody else that’s speaking out,” Beshear added.

What did Andy Beshear say about Mountain Dew?

The 46-year-old leader’s apology came after JD Vance made fun of the Democrats at a rally in his hometown of Middletown, Ohio, saying, “[Democrats] say it’s racist to do anything. I had a Diet Mountain Dew yesterday, and one today — I’m sure they’re gonna call that racist too.”

In response, Beshear hit back during an interview with CNN. He said, "What was weird was, him joking about racism today, and then talking about Diet Mountain Dew — who drinks Diet Mountain Dew?”

Internet reacts to Andy Beshear's apology to Mountain Dew

Meanwhile, people have reacted negatively to Andy Beshear’s apology for his remarks against Mountain Dew.

An X user tweeted, “And what about the real issues? Where's the apology for the failing economy, the rising crime rates, or the crumbling infrastructure? No, instead, Beshear chooses to waste our time with this nonsense.”

Another user said, “This is what we don't need....weak and feckless leadership.”

The third user commented, “Really? He's worried about criticizing a soft drink? How petty.”

The fourth user shared, “The real question is who drinks it now that Mt. Dew Zero is a thing. I’m sure Andy was concerned about offending so many Kentuckian Dew lovers but most of those constituents, especially those in eastern Kentucky, drink the good stuff. Sugar and all.”

The fifth user added, “Pass, failing ticket!!”

A tweet read, “Clown behavior from Beshear made himself more of a joke than Vance, astonishingly.”

Another tweet read, “JD Vance exposed the frauds Silver Spoon Beshear and Academic Pete Buttigieg.”

“He’s retarded bc Vance’s statements were, in fact, correct. The left made memes about ‘if you drink Mt. Dew you’re a racist/white supremacist’ in the 2010s. Thanks for playing,” a person shared.
