Anne Hathaway credits Rihanna with inspiring her bold maternity style: 'She changed the game'

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anne Hathaway has revealed that Rihanna inspired her to use her imagination and have more fun with her red-carpet looks while embracing more playful and glamorous maternity fashion as she expects her third baby with husband Adam Shulman.

Hathaway discussed her maternity style during an appearance on 'CBS Mornings', where host Gayle King praised her for looking “so glamorous” while embracing her pregnancy on red carpets.

King specifically mentioned Hathaway's striking silk crop top and jeans at the world premiere of her new film 'The End of Oak Street' in Los Angeles on August 9.

“I was so excited for that outfit! I was really, really, really excited to wear it. That’s a Prabal Gurung,” the actress said of the look during the morning show appearance, which aired Friday, October 2.

Hathaway then credited Rihanna for inspiring her fashion choices during her third pregnancy. “I think that we have Rihanna to thank,” she shared, adding, “She changed the game! And when I saw her, what she was doing with her maternity style, I just realized that I just needed to use my imagination and go out there and have more fun.”

Rihanna, who shares three children, RZA, Riot and Rocki, with longtime partner A$AP Rocky, previously discussed her fashion-forward maternity looks with Vogue in April 2022. “I’m sorry—it’s too much fun to get dressed up. I’m not going to let that part disappear because my body is changing,” she said at the time.

Hathaway also made sure to credit her longtime stylist, saying, “Thank you, Erin Walsh!”

Hathaway, who is already a mom to sons Jonathan, 10, and Jack, 6, first announced her pregnancy in June. Since then, she has showcased her baby bump in a series of fashionable looks while promoting 'The Odyssey' and 'The End of Oak Street'.

She later revealed during an August appearance on 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' that she and Shulman know the sex of their third baby but are “not saying.” Hathaway has continued bringing her maternity style to various red carpets in recent months amid her busy schedule. 

'Verity' marks her fifth film of 2026. “I’m excited. This is very, very fun. It’s extremely surreal,” she told PEOPLE in July about how she is feeling at this point in her life.

The actress took her maternity style to another level at the New York world premiere of the psychological thriller on Tuesday. Styled by Walsh, Hathaway wore a black lace mermaid-cut gown with a sheer, glittery cape detail sourced from Prabal Gurung’s atelier collection.

She completed the look with a diamond bracelet and teardrop-shaped earrings while attending the event at AMC Lincoln Square 13.
