NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a member of the 'Squad', has put an end to speculation regarding her stance on President Joe Biden's 2024 run following his debate debacle.

Following President Biden's challenging debate with former President Donald Trump on June 27, there has been widespread speculation about his physical and mental well-being, prompting discussions on whether he should continue in the presidential race.

AOC stands firm in support of Joe Biden amid Democratic divisions

As of Monday, July 8, only a few Democratic lawmakers have called for the president to withdraw from the race, while a larger group continues to endorse Biden. Now, AOC has also reiterated her support for the president's leadership.

"I have spoken with [Biden] extensively," AOC revealed. "The matter is closed. Joe Biden is our nominee."

AOC stated that during her conversation with Biden over the weekend, he confirmed his intention to remain in the race. "He made clear then and he has made clear since that he is in this race," she continued.

"He is in this race and I support him," the Squad leader remarked.

The enthusiastic endorsement from a leading progressive lawmaker arrives at a pivotal moment as Democrats distance themselves from the President's bid for reelection.

The support for Biden by AOC is echoed by the Chair of the House Congressional Progressive Caucus, Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash, who has also expressed her support for him at this time.

Jayapal said, "I think it's important that we make sure that our nominee is the strongest, and right now Biden is our nominee."

"So until that changes, I think it's better that we have these conversations in private," she continued.

However, her perspective on Biden after the debate was not entirely positive.

"I think it would be hard not to be concerned," she added. "I think that was not a good debate performance. And I think it was very difficult for all of us to watch."

Calls for Joe Biden's exit grow among Democratic lawmakers

Texas Representative Lloyd Doggett was the first Democrat to diverge from Biden's camp. On July 2, five days following Biden's lackluster performance in the CNN debate, Doggett released a statement calling for the president to withdraw from the race.

Doggett, a seasoned Democrat who has been in office since 1995, noted Biden's pledge to be a "transitional" candidate and stated that the President has fulfilled this promise and should therefore conclude his campaign, Daily Mail reports.

The following day, on July 3, Representative Raul Grijalva of Arizona also expressed to The New York Times his belief that Joe Biden should exit the race.

"If he's the candidate, I'm going to support him, but I think that this is an opportunity to look elsewhere," Grijalva said.

Several influential lawmakers voiced their concerns about Biden's capabilities during a Sunday, July 7, conference call among Congress members.

Democratic Representatives Mark Takano of California, Jerry Nadler and Joe Morelle of New York, and Adam Smith of Washington all shared their desire to see Biden withdraw.

On Monday, Smith, the top Democrat on the House Armed Services Committee, publicly expressed on CNN his desire for Biden to withdraw from the electoral race.

Regarding the political stance of Democrats, Smith remarked, "We've got a good message." He said that there were worries before the debate, adding, "The president has shown he is not capable of delivering that message in an effective way."

As soon as the news went viral on social media, users started reacting to it, One wrote, "The squad has lost all credibility and are desperately clinging to the sinking ship that promises to keep them afloat."

Another user added, "They know if they stick with Biden that will soon turn into a Harris presidency." [sic]

A commentator added, "Of course, they are clearly the ones involved in controlling him."

"That may convince Biden that he needs to drop out," a person remarked.
