PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA: During his first solo campaign event for Kamala Harris, Barack Obama made a crude joke about former president Donald Trump, which has completely backfired.

Obama suggested during his speech at the University of Pittsburgh on Thursday, October 10, that he thought the 78-year-old Trump was wearing adult diapers.

Obama, 63, recalled how, when he first became a parent, he was astounded by how costly diapers were. "Do you think Donald Trump ever changed a diaper?" he asked the crowd. "His own!" an audience member yelled back, Daily Mail reported.

"I almost said that, but I decided I should not say it," Obama remarked, chuckling.

He also criticized Trump for promoting products during his presidential campaign. Obama singled out Trump for his "tweeting in all caps" and his "rantings and ravings about crazy conspiracy theories."

"You've got the two hours speeches, word salad, it's like Fidel Castro, like on and on; constant attempts to sell you stuff," Obama went on to say.

"Who does that?" he mused. "He sells you gold sneakers and a 100,000 watch and most recently a Trump Bible. He wants you to buy the word of God, Donald Trump edition, his name next to Matthew and Luke," Obama said.  "If you saw it on 'Saturday Night Live,' you’d say no that’s going too far. It's crazy."

Obama began his 45-minute address by acknowledging the frustrations felt by many in the current political climate.

Barack Obama critiques Donald Trump’s economic claims

The Democratic former president commented on how Trump is acknowledged for the strong economy during his tenure. "Yeah, it was pretty good, because it was my economy," Obama boasted. "It wasn't something he did."

"I spent eight years cleaning up the mess that the Republicans left me," Obama further added.

Obama assumed the presidency in 2009, following a financial crash attributed to predatory lending practices targeting low-income homebuyers. In 2024, Trump has once again prioritized immigration, echoing his initial presidential campaign eight years prior.

"When I hear Donald Trump talking, I've got one question," Obama remarked. "As I recall, Donald Trump was president for four years. And if rounding up and deporting millions of desperate people and building the beautiful wall - and it didn't matter whether some of those folks you rounded up were women and children - if that's the answer to everything, well why didn't you solve the problem?" he asked.

Internet mocks Barack Obama

Social media did not find Obama's joke about Trump amusing. Users began to react, criticizing the former Democratic president for his remark.

A user said, "That reeks of Democrat desperation."

Another added, "Obama is out of touch with the American people -Their interest is the cost of living - Obama's vicious attack on Trump suggesting he wears adult diapers & mocking him for hawking sneakers and Bibles as 2024 polls tighten."

A user remarked, "Obama They go low and we go low. Sad that a lot of adults do have to wear and change their own diapers. Really sad that Obama would stoop that low."

A person said, "He knows they’re losing and by too much to cheat!"

Another added, "Just a horrible speech It's because of Biden/Kamala inflation so bad and prices at grocery store UP 25% or more! VOTE TRUMP!"

An X user asserted, "How childish."
