LANSING, MICHIGAN: During a campaign event in the crucial swing state of Michigan on Friday, July 12, President Joe Biden assured people that he was 'OK' before misnaming a well-known Democrat congresswoman, according to the New York Post.

Before heading to a larger rally in Detroit, where he stumbled attempting to shout out Rep Debbie Dingell (D-Mich), Joe Biden told supporters at a Northville, "I promise you, I am  – I’m OK."

Biden said, apparently referring to Dingell, a five-term congresswoman, "Members of Congress – Debbie Haley. And by the way, I want you to know that I’ve spent a lot of time with Debbie. She helped me a lot."

Moreover, Biden continued by pointing up Dingell's likeness to first lady Jill Biden. Explaining that Dingell "looks like Jill," he said, "I forget which event we were at, and someone said, you’re his wife, aren’t you?"

Biden acknowledged much later in the event that 'sometimes I confuse names', but he did not fix his mistake. There was a noticeable lack of prominent state politicians during the campaign gathering.

Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer, co-chair of the Biden campaign and a suggested Biden replacement, wasn't in the state for the occasion. Representative Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich), who is running for the vacant senate seat in Wolverine State, was not present, and neither was Shawn Fain, president of United Auto Workers.

Earlier, Sen Gary Peters stated that he believed Democrats would be able to maintain their thin majority in the upper chamber and that Biden "absolutely" could defeat former President Donald Trump in November. Peters was also not present.

Notably, a RealClearPolitics average of surveys shows that Trump leads Biden in Michigan by less than a percentage point. Following Biden's dismal June 27 debate with Trump, an Emerson College study showed the former president to be one point ahead of the incumbent, 45% to 44%.
