WASHINGTON, DC: Actor and filmmaker Ben Stiller has released a forceful statement condemning recent deadly encounters involving US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Minneapolis.

Shared on social media Friday, Stiller’s remarks reflect growing concerns over civil liberties, due process, and the role of government in protecting citizens. The statement comes amid nationwide protests following the deaths of Alex Pretti and Renee Good during ICE operations.

Ben Stiller slams 'violent murder' of American citizens

In his post, Stiller expressed deep concern over the state of democracy in the US. He wrote, “We’ve now seen the violent murder of American citizens, killed in cold blood in broad daylight by masked ICE agents. These were our neighbors, their lives ended by armed militias entering our communities with impunity.”

He added that Pretti and Good were denied both due process and dignity, criticizing the administration for deflecting blame and distorting the events. “They were denied justice in life and respect in death,” Stiller said, calling on elected officials to act with integrity and honesty.

Actor emphasizes the Constitution and individual rights

Highlighting foundational democratic principles, Stiller noted that the Bill of Rights exists to protect citizens from government overreach. “And yet here we are. Innocent people are being harassed, separated from their families, and in some cases killed,” he wrote. He urged the public to demand accountability and the removal of ICE from communities where enforcement has become lethal.

Stiller concluded on a hopeful note, advocating empathy and unity. “I believe we can reverse this slide toward division and hate. Facing this moment with a return to empathy and love for one another might sound naïve, but it’s ultimately what will move our country forward,” he said.

Hollywood voices join the conversation

Other notable figures, including Natalie Portman, Molly Ringwald, and Ethan Hawke, have also condemned ICE’s recent actions. Bruce Springsteen released a song, 'Streets of Minneapolis,' dedicated to Pretti and Good, describing the events as “state terror” impacting the city.
