ATLANTA, GEORGIA: Mickey Lee, a contestant on CBS' reality series 'Big Brother', has died at the age of 35 after suffering multiple cardiac arrests. Her family confirmed her death in a statement shared on Instagram on Friday, December 26, saying she passed away on Christmas evening.

Lee had been hospitalized earlier this week after a sudden health crisis, prompting a fundraising effort for medical expenses. She appeared most recently on 'Big Brother' season 27, which aired over the summer.

Family confirms death following sudden medical emergency

“With profound sadness, the family of Mickey Lee announces her transition on Christmas in the early evening,” her family said in the statement.

“Mickey captured the hearts of audiences nationwide through her appearance on ‘Big Brother’, where her authenticity, strength and spirit left a lasting impression on fans and fellow cast members alike,” it further read.

The family added that Lee "will be remembered for the joy she brought into the lives of so many and for the genuine connections she formed on and offscreen.”

They expressed gratitude for the public support they received, writing, “the family extends their deepest gratitude to everyone who has offered prayers, love and support during this incredibly difficult time.”

They also requested privacy as they mourned her loss, concluding, “Mickey’s light, legacy and impact will never be forgotten.”

News of Lee's hospitalization emerged earlier this week, when a GoFundMe page organized by family friend Kori Smith revealed that she was in “critical but stable condition” after suffering “a series of cardiac arrests.”

The fundraiser described the situation as a "sudden health crisis" and said that her recovery would be "long and challenging."

As of Friday, more than $31,000 of the $40,000 goal had been raised to cover medical expenses, recovery support, and travel and lodging for family members.

'Big Brother' legacy and tributes from castmates

Lee was a contestant on 'Big Brother' season 27, which aired from July to September.

Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, and based in Atlanta, Georgia, she entered the house as an event curator and creative professional.

She spent 59 days on the show and was evicted during her eighth week, becoming the final houseguest eliminated before the jury phase.

“I prefer it this way,” Lee told Gold Derby after her eviction. “I get to go out and live my life a little bit before coming back for finale.”

According to information shared on the fundraiser, Lee’s cardiac arrests stemmed from complications related to the flu.

Just two weeks before her hospitalization, Lee had posted photos of herself on Instagram, appearing healthy and upbeat, captioning one post with, “Good genes…”

She also shared quotes, reading, “I highly recommend not caring,” and, “My waist is small, my face is gorgeous, my soul is pure, and God loves me so I don’t really care about the rest.”
