NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Bill Maher ripped Fox News host Bret Baier and called him an "a*****e" for his combative interview with Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.

During the 'Real Time with Bill Maher' monologue on Friday, October 18, Maher said that he had pegged Baier wrong and claimed he earlier believed he was "the most legitimate journalist on Fox News", per the Daily Mail.

Bill Maher grilled Bret Baier during the show and defended Kamala Harris' performance in her interview with the Fox News host.

He went on to troll Fox News and said, "They asked her the same question they ask every guest, 'Don't you just hate Kamala Harris?'" He continued his jab on Baier and said while asking the audience, "Do you know this guy? I must say I had him pegged wrong. I'd always heard about him."

Maher added, "I don't watch Fox News that much, so I didn't know, but they kept saying he was the most legitimate journalist on Fox News. No actually, he was a huge a*****e."

He went on to say, "Well, there's tough journalism, and then he was just a huge a*****e. So, you know, being the most legitimate journalist on Fox is a little like being the hottest person in the dollar store."

Bret Baier talks about one mistake he made during Kamala Harris interview

Bret Baier told his Fox News colleagues Harris Faulkner and Harold Ford Jr, that he made a mistake during a contentious moment of his interview with Kamala Harris.

He said, "Harold, I did make a mistake. And I did want to say that I did make a mistake. When I called for a soundbite, I was expecting a piece of the "enemy from within" from Maria Bartiromo's interview to be tied to the piece from your town hall, Harris, where you asked the former president about 'the enemy from within.'"

He added that what played out was only "the piece about the town hall."

Notably, GOP Presidential candidate Donald Trump said on Sunday, October 13 during his sit-down with Fox's Bartiromo, "I think the bigger problem is the enemy from within. Not even the people that have come in and [are] destroying our country."

The former president added, "We have some sick people, radical left lunatics. And I think they are, and it should be very easily handled by, if necessary, by National Guard, or if really necessary, by the military."

Internet slams Bil Maher as he takes aim at Bret Baier

People on the internet slammed Bill Maher as he ripped Bret Baier and called him an "a*****e" for his combative interview with Kamala Harris.

A user said, "Baier was aggressive in his interview; however, I am more concerned about Harris' responses -- or lack of them."

Another commented, "When Maher gets it wrong, he REALLY gets it wrong. Harris simply responded to Baier's questions by trying to work in her standard talking points - even though they had nothing to do with the question."

A person also stated, "Since when is asking legitimate questions and expecting answers to those questions an ambush?" whereas one mentioned, "Bret asked the questions we all want answers to, and when she attempted to filibuster her answers he dragged her back in."

A user also wrote, "Maher neglected to question why Harris did not answer a single question from the interview."

One commented, "Sometimes I find myself agreeing with Maher but not this time. I never watch any network news but I did watch the interview afterwards and found Harris difficult to interview."

A user added, "I think HBO/Max should force Bill Maher to take a cognitive test himself. He's all over the place."
