LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: On Friday's 'Overtime' segment of his HBO show 'Real Time,' Bill Maher raised concerns about the liberal media's reluctance to cover the controversies surrounding second gentleman Doug Emhoff.

According to the Fox News, during a panel discussion, Maher highlighted the current chatter in the news, noting that the Daily Mail reported allegations involving Emhoff's past, including claims from three women about an incident at the Cannes Film Festival where Emhoff reportedly slapped his then-girlfriend, believing she was flirting with someone else.

Buck Sexton and Bill Maher debate media’s responsibility amid Doug Emhoff controversy

Conservative radio host Buck Sexton joined the conversation, emphasizing that Emhoff's affair with the family nanny and the resulting pregnancy had been confirmed.

Maher, sharing a laugh, acknowledged the gravity of the situation and questioned whether the liberal media would continue to ignore these allegations. "If this becomes more credible—and we don't know yet... Does the liberal media keep ignoring it?" he asked.

Sexton confidently asserted that they would. "Yes, they will. Absolutely," he replied, prompting Maher to reflect, "Wouldn't that make it look worse?"

CNN anchor Laura Coates weighed in, advocating for caution when reporting serious allegations. She argued that it is essential for the media to wait for supporting details before making claims, adding that while it's fair to investigate, it's also important not to prematurely tarnish someone's reputation without sufficient evidence.

Tim Alberta, a staff writer for The Atlantic, described the Emhoff situation as a significant challenge for Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign. He noted that regardless of the veracity of the claims, the controversy was generating attention, and he anticipated that major news outlets would soon delve deeper into the allegations.

Doug Emhoff faces increasing scrutiny amid allegations of infidelity and misconduct

Emhoff has recently faced scrutiny, with revelations about his extramarital affair leading to his divorce from his first wife, Kerstin Emhoff. In his statement, he acknowledged past difficulties in his marriage but emphasized that he has taken responsibility and worked through those challenges.

In addition to the affair, the Daily Mail reported severe allegations, including accusations of Emhoff "forcefully slapping" his girlfriend and exhibiting "inappropriate" behavior during his time as a partner at a Los Angeles law firm.

Despite the mounting controversies, interviews with Emhoff have largely skirted these issues, and when MSNBC's Joe Scarborough mentioned "tabloid stories," Emhoff refrained from denying the claims, instead framing them as distractions.

"We don’t have time to be pissed off. We don't have time to focus on it. It's all a distraction," he said in response to the allegations.
