Taylor Swift's endorsement power stuns Bill Maher, comedian says 'this case' defies 'conventional wisdom'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bill Maher is amazed by Taylor Swift's influence on the presidential elections following her endorsement of 'warrior' Kamala Harris.
The 'Real Time' host in his Friday, September 13, episode of the show weighed in on the celebrity endorsements suggesting the "conventional wisdom" they don't work does not apply here.
Bill Maher says Taylor Swift told people 'who to vote for'
Surprised by the sheer number of voters who registered following the pop star's posts on X, formally Twitter and Instagram, Bill Maher said, “Let's get to the big news this week: Taylor Swift finally told people who to vote for."
Reportedly, Swift's endorsement drove more than 400,000 people to Vote.gov.
"Of course, immediately the response from the other side was, ‘Celebrity endorsements don’t matter.’ People are always so behind on these things, you know," Maher said.
"That’s the conventional wisdom for a long time, many celebrity endorsements don’t work, not in this case?" he continued.
"I mean, just the number of people who were immediately registered from that tweet," he added referring to Grammy winner musicians endorsement.
Bill Maher says George Clooney got Biden out of race
The comedian is not sorry for trying to prove his point by suggesting America was a 'Star*****r' country.
"George Clooney is the one who got Biden to step down," he explained.
"I wrote the exact same editorial he did, and so many other people did too. Nobody cared. As soon as George Clooney said it, he’s gotta go," Maher said.
He then said Swift has "saved democracy" by throwing her support behind Harris, Fox News reported.
In February, when President Joe Biden was the presumptive Democratic nominee, Maher said Swift could "literally swing the election" in his favor with an endorsement.
The television host then referred to a May poll in Newsweek, suggesting how Swift could sway the electorate in favor of the one she may endorse.
“This was the most surprising part of it, was who she influenced,” he said.
“Swift, it says, would have more influence over male voters — 27 percent of male voters said they’d be more likely to vote for a candidate endorsed by Swift. I must have this phenomenon gauged all wrong. I thought it would be women," he added.
Taylor Swift's endorsement for Kamala Harris
Following the presidential debate between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris on ABC News, Taylor Swift took to her social media to give the vice president her highly influential endorsement while also mocking Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance for his "childless cat lady remarks" by posting a photo with cat alongside the caption.

Swift said she was going to vote for Kamala Harris because "she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them."
“I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos," Swift wrote in part in a long post on Instagram.
"I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate [Tim Walz], who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades," she further wrote.
