Taylor Swift endorses 'warrior' Kamala Harris after debate, causes meltdown in Republican camp

WASHINGTON, DC: Taylor Swift has officially endorsed Democratic Presidential candidate Kamala Harris, ending months of speculation. Swift's announcement came shortly after the presidential debate, marking a significant moment in the 2024 election cycle.

Known for her outspoken political views, Swift had previously supported President Joe Biden in the 2020 election and has been a vocal critic of Republican candidate Donald Trump. On September 10, the 14-time Grammy winner shared her endorsement in an Instagram post, concluding with the phrase “childless cat lady.”

As the race for the White House intensified, people all over the nation were waiting for Taylor Swift to make a statement on the election after she publicly endorsed President Joe Biden in the last election. 

Following Tuesday night’s great showdown, Swift took to her Instagram, where she has over 283 million followers, to write a lengthy statement in support of Kamala Harris and Vice-Presidential candidate Tim Walz. 

Referencing the debate, she started her post, “Like many of you, I watched the debate tonight. If you haven’t already, now is a great time to do your research on the issues at hand and the stances these candidates take on the topics that matter to you the most. As a voter, I make sure to watch and read everything I can about their proposed policies and plans for this country.”

In her post, she further explained her reason for choosing the time to make her political stance clear. She revealed that she was disturbed by the use of her AI versions to support Trump on the internet. 

Referencing the time, she wrote, “Recently I was made aware that AI of ‘me’ falsely endorsing Donald Trump’s presidential run was posted to his site. It really conjured up my fears around AI, and the dangers of spreading misinformation. It brought me to the conclusion that I need to be very transparent about my actual plans for this election as a voter. The simplest way to combat misinformation is with the truth.”

Swift further stated boldly, without mincing her words, “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”

“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them. I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos,” she explained. 

She also included a shout out to Walz, saying, “I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate @timwalz, who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades.”

“I’ve done my research, and I’ve made my choice. Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make. I also want to say, especially to first time voters: Remember that in order to vote, you have to be registered! I also find it’s much easier to vote early. I’ll link where to register and find early voting dates and info in my story,” noted the songstress. 

“With love and hope,” she concluded while signing, “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady.”

Her signing comes off as a subtle jibe at JD Vance, the Republican Vice Presidential candidate, who previously mocked “childless cat ladies.”

To make her point, Swift accompanied her post with a picture of her posing with her calico cat Benjamin Button. 

Alz, after knowing the endorsement during an interview with MSNBC, thanked Swift, saying, “I'm incredibly grateful to Taylor Swift,” before adding, “I say that as a fellow cat owner.”

He added, “That's the type of courage we need in America,” and further noted, “This is an opportunity Swifties: KamalaHarris.com - get over there.”

Nevertheless, the Republicans seemed to shrug off her endorsement by slamming the Democrats to be “the party of the wealthy elite.”

Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told Daily Mail, “It's further evidence that the Democrat Party, unfortunately, is the party of the wealthy elite.”

Leavitt continued, “And Taylor Swift may make great music, but she does not understand the struggles of everyday, hardworking families, and president Trump is speaking on behalf of those hardworking, struggling families who don't get the privilege, like Taylor Swift, of living in a gated community, who need their local police to be funded, who want their Second Amendment right to defend themselves and their family because they don't have armed security like Taylor Swift has.”

Taylor Swift's highly anticipated endorsement of Kamala Harris triggered a backlash among Republican supporters online. While some fans embraced her support, others criticized the singer's endorsement, arguing they are more interested in affordable necessities than in "celebrity endorsements."

One of the social media users lauded her endorsement, saying, "PERFECT TIMING! She has great awareness."

Someone else, however, criticized while projecting, "Well she just lost half of her audience."

Another netizen noted, "Why anyone should care about her opinion is beyond me."

"She must have felt kamala lost the debate to announce that tonight. But it's no surprise," said another disgruntled Trump supporter.

Someone else noted in a voice laced with sarcasm, "Surprise, suprise. Another billionaire endorsing Kamala."

Another social media user noted, "Celebrities tend to overvalue their importance!"

Referencing Swift's liberal political standing, another user noted, "A liberal voter is backing a liberal democrat nominee. What a surprise 🤣😂🤣😂."

"We just want cheap food and gas. Not celebrities endorsements," said another user.

Someone else, however, grieved online while hypothesizing, "It’s incredibly disheartening to see her. Do something like this. When Trump was the reason why Isis was demolished. And Isis is the reason why her tours are being under threat. I find this incredibly demoralizing to see her do this. She obviously doesn’t have the best interest in her fans."

Meanwhile, another fan celebrated her endorsement, exclaiming, "So great...lets hope this brings the "swifties" to the polls!!"
