JD Vance slammed for calling Kamala Harris a ‘childless cat lady’ who is ‘miserable’ in resurfaced video
WASHINGTON, DC: In 2021, Sen JD Vance (R-Ohio), selected as Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate, referred to Vice President Kamala Harris as a "childless cat lady," claiming she was "miserable" and lacked a direct stake in America's future due to not being a mother.
In an attack at the Intercollegiate Studies Institute conference, Vance specifically mentioned Harris in his tirade against the "childless left" and their "no physical commitment to the future of this country."
JD Vance criticized the Democratic party's leadership
Vance grouped the vice president with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg, Sen Cory Booker (D-NJ), and Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), Huff Post reported.
“Why is this just a normal fact of … life, for the leaders of our country to be people who don’t have a personal and direct stake in it via their own offspring?” Vance said.
Subsequently, the Ohio Republican intensified his criticism of Democrats without children during an interview with Tucker Carlson on Fox News.
“We’re effectively run in this country, via the Democrats, via our corporate oligarchs, by a bunch of childless cat ladies who are miserable at their own lives and the choices that they’ve made and so they want to make the rest of the country miserable too,” Vance said.

“It’s just a basic fact: You look at Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg, AOC, the entire future of the Democrats is controlled by people without children,” he said. “And how does it make any sense that we’ve turned our country over to people that don’t have a direct stake in it.”
JD Vance's statement unfairly disparaged millions of Americans without children
In a single statement, JD Vance unfairly disparaged a vast number of Americans. Millions of people don't — or can't — have children. Many others have adorable cats.
They are not living in misery and hold an equal stake in America's future. Furthermore, the Ohio Republican seemed to make a derogatory insinuation about Buttigieg, who is gay, by labeling him as one of the so-called childless cat ladies.
In reality, Harris is a stepmother; her two stepchildren from her marriage to second gentleman Doug Emhoff refer to her as "Momala" in the family. Buttigieg, meanwhile, has gushed about his two kids — twins! — whom he and his husband adopted in August 2021.
Following Vance's 2021 remarks on Fox News, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez retaliated against the billionaire Republican and former venture capitalist.
“When you accidentally let your billionaire funder-talk slip out on TV, you say things like ‘a healthy ruling class,’” she posted on social media at that time.

Another user added, "He’s basically arguing that women must put education, careers and ambitions aside in order to pump out babies to serve the state. Shouldn’t a woman have the right to make her own decisions? That’s the difference in this election."
