'Buy some f*****g eggs!' Fitness guru Jillian Michaels tears into Bill Maher for downplaying inflation
MANHATTAN, NEW YORK CITY: Jillian Michaels, a fitness expert, certified nutritionist, businesswoman, media personality, and author, conversed with liberal comedian Bill Maher on his podcast regarding inflation after COVID-19, expressing strong disagreement with Maher's assertion that "inflation is not insane" in 2024.
During their discussion about the pandemic on 'Club Random', Maher contended that the United States emerged economically stronger than many other nations.
Americans grapple with rising prices despite economic recovery claims
A recent survey by Axios Vibes on inflation revealed that many Americans are feeling anxious and frustrated while grocery shopping due to soaring prices.
Despite inflation having decreased from its peak in 2022, prices remain significantly higher than pre-2020 levels.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, Americans now need to spend approximately $125.51 on groceries that would have cost $100 in December 2019.
"But isn’t it remarkable to you? Like it was in the paper today, this country came out of the pandemic way better. We won the pandemic, economically," Maher remarked on his podcast, released on February 11.
"We did? I don’t feel that way," Michaels countered. "Explain it to me. I feel like inflation’s insane."
As Maher asserted that inflation isn't severe, Michaels retorted, "Bill, go buy a car, a house has tripled here, buy some f-----g eggs!
Bill Maher on perception vs economic reality amid inflation concerns
Maher then highlighted the disparity between Americans' perceptions of inflation and the actual economic data.
"There’s feelings and then there’s the numbers," he stated, adding, "Numbers have come down a lot in the last six months."
Maher argued that the initial issue stemmed from the "inevitable" consequences of the COVID stimulus plan, where the government "gave out $6 trillion so that everybody could hide under the bed from the forever flu. That was never going to end well."
He further remarked that it was a "massive overreaction" that ultimately fueled inflation.
"The big picture is that every other nation in the world [is] much worse off now, and this country, for some reason just chugs f-----g along," he remarked.
"Immigration. We are kinda being overrun. Doesn’t seem to effect anything!!" Maher quipped.
"Does it eventually implode? Is there going to be a straw? I would say yes," Michaels replied.
