PALM BEACH, FLORIDA: The FBI confirmed that Donald Trump was struck by a bullet during the failed assassination attempt at the Pennsylvania rally on July 13, prompting the former president to accept the acknowledgment as an apology. Earlier, the agency director Christopher Wray cast doubt it could be "shrapnel" and not a bullet that hit the real estate mogul's ear.

"What struck former President Trump in the ear was a bullet, whether whole or fragmented into smaller pieces, fired from the deceased subject's rifle," the FBI said in a statement released on Friday, July 26, as per the New York Post.

Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, fired multiple shots at the GOP presidential nominee while he was addressing his supporters at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One of the shots pierced his right ear, and a rally attendant was killed. The gunman was immediately neutralized at the crime scene by a Secret Service sniper.

Trump accepts FBI's confirmation as an apology after director implied it was a 'shrapnel'

The FBI's confirmation came after backlash over Wray's testimony before the House Judiciary Committee on July 24, where he said, "There's some question about whether or not it's a bullet or shrapnel that hit his ear."

Trump retorted to the claim on Truth Social, saying Wray was "wrong" and the federal agency "never even checked" to see what pierced his ear.

However, in response to the FBI's acknowledgment, the former president wrote on Truth Social, "I assume that's the best apology that we'll get from Director Wray, but it is fully accepted!"

Later, at a Turning Point Believers Summit in West Palm Beach, Florida, on July 26, Trump further addressed the scandal surrounding what hit his ear, taking a mocking swipe at the FBI, according to The Independent.

"Did you see the FBI today apologize?" the MAGA spearhead asked the crowd. "They said 'it might've been a bullet or it might've been glass…or it might've been shrapnel'…They then said it was a bullet…It never ends with these people," he continued.

Citing the FBI raid at his Mar-a-Lago residence for the classified documents, he added, "It just never ends with these people."

"We accept their apology," Trump declared.

Wray was appointed to the top FBI position by Trump in 2017.

Calls to fire Christopher Wrey surface online after FBI admits Trump was hit by bullet

The internet demanded Trump to 'fire' Wrey in his second term; meanwhile, some others demanded his resignation after the former president accepted the FBI's admittance of a bullet hitting him as an apology.

"Fire wray," a user demanded.

"That is a fact, not an apology. Director Wray should be taken from his post and thrown behind bars," another remarked.

"Trump needs to fire wray on his first day of his administration!" Added a third user.

"He still going to get fired," read a fourth response.

"Christopher Wray should resign," someone else chimed in.

"Wray should resign for lying to congress or atleast be charged for it," another said.

"Oh, Chris Wray is as clueless as the head of the SS was. He should resign too," an individual added.

"FBI director needs to step down," read one remark.
