LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: MSNBC’s Joy Reid has stirred significant controversy by advancing a new set of conspiracy theories related to the recent assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

In a series of provocative posts on X (formerly Twitter), Reid has cast doubt on the official account of the Butler, Pennsylvania, shooting and suggested that the entire event might have been staged for media purposes.

Joy Reid questions the authenticity of Trump’s injury

In her latest remarks, Joy Reid questioned whether Donald Trump was genuinely shot at all.

"We still don't know for sure whether Donald Trump was hit by a bullet," she began. "We know almost nothing." Her skepticism comes amid growing public scrutiny of the Secret Service’s response to the security breach that allowed the attack to occur.

Reid’s comments follow a controversial broadcast at the Republican National Convention, where she made a questionable comparison between President Biden’s brief recovery from Covid-19 and Trump’s dramatic reaction to being shot.

She suggested that Trump’s act of pumping his fist immediately after the shooting was a calculated move to attract media attention, declaring that it was akin to a "photo op."

In her recent X post, Reid intensified her speculative narrative, suggesting that Trump’s Secret Service agents might have deliberately allowed him to stand up and pose for a photo during the crisis.

"We don’t know why, for nine full seconds, Donald Trump was allowed to stand back up during an active shooting," Reid said. "Even though they at that point had said the shooter was down, how would they have known if there were more shooters or not? There could have been five shooters for all they knew."

She then speculated that the agents allowed him to "pose for a photo, and fist pump the air, so he could get the iconic photo."

Joe Reid’s conspiracy theories draw fire from critics

Joy Reid’s insinuations have sparked criticism from various quarters, including from conservative commentator Kenny Webster.

He compared Reid’s speculative theories to Alex Jones’ infamous statements about the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting, saying, "Alex Jones was fined $1.5 billion for his comments on Sandy Hook. How is this any different? Fine Joy Reid and seize MSNBC’s studio equipment."

In addition to questioning the shooting itself, Reid also raised doubts about the nature of Trump’s injury.

"Trump claimed a bullet tore through the top part of his right ear and appeared at the RNC with a small bandage over the wound," she said. "But I’m still wondering, ‘What exactly is the injury to Donald Trump’s ear that’s under that bandage?’ Shouldn’t we know that by now? It’s strange, and there doesn’t seem to be much curiosity about it."

Reid further suggested that the media and officials are neglecting to explore the details of the attack. She asked, "Why isn’t the New York Times like aggressively pursuing his medical records? It’s just weird, just a strange thing that I’ve noticed."

Joy Reid falsely claims officials are confused about victims' locations

Joy Reid also asserted that officials are confused about the victims' locations, despite clear reports detailing where the attendees were during the shooting.

"I’m not clear on where the three people who were shot were sitting or standing relative to Donald Trump," she said, though The Hill had previously reported that there was a clear understanding of the victims' positions.

The scrutiny of the Secret Service’s actions has been intensified by comments from the agency’s chief, Kimberly Cheatle.

In an interview with ABC News, Cheatle offered a controversial explanation for why an agent was not stationed on the roof from which the gunman fired.

She explained, "That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point. And so, you know, there’s a safety factor that would be considered there that we wouldn’t want to put somebody up on a sloped roof," justifying the decision to secure the building from the inside.

Online backlash against Joy Reid
