NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Zohran Mamdani, NYC’s newly elected mayor, has already been in the news for his victory over Andrew Cuomo. Now he’s trending again, this time not for a political event on TV, but for a real-world conversation that caught people off guard.

The moment came to light when the co-founder and CEO of a fintech company shared a photo of Mamdani and Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA). The entrepreneur's post, shared on X (formerly Twitter) with the caption, “Elizabeth Warren and Mamdani in a deep debate,” quickly grabbed public attention and has since racked up over 1.9 million views.

Kushal Byatnal, CEO of the fintech company Extend, shared a surprising moment he spotted from his office. He explained that their workspace is directly across from Zohran Mamdani’s campaign headquarters.

After Byatnal’s team finished their morning stand-up meeting, they looked outside and spotted something unexpected — Mamdani and Warren engaged in a deep conversation. They couldn’t hear what was being said, but Byatnal felt they were discussing something important and heated.

“Our office is directly across from Mamdani’s campaign HQ. We looked over after stand-up today and, surprise, Elizabeth Warren and Mamdani in a deep debate. The team is even tempted to put up a sign asking @ExtendHQ to take over NYC’s document processing,” Byatnal wrote in his post.

There’s little doubt the two Democrats had no idea they were being candidly photographed from a neighboring building. The post quickly took off, reaching 1.5 million views and over 2,100 likes shortly after it was shared on Wednesday, November 14.

Zohran Mamdani won the 2025 New York City mayoral race, defeating former Governor Andrew Cuomo and Curtis Silwa. Mamdani’s win reflects a massive shift in the New York City politics graph. His campaign focused on issues that relate mostly to younger voters and working-class families.

The young democrat talked about making the city more affordable, like freezing rent, opening city-owned grocery stores, and making bus rides free. He also pushed for better public transit, stronger climate action, and policies aimed at easing daily financial struggles for New Yorkers.

Many top Democrats couldn’t agree on whether to back him, and that division only added more tension to the race. And even though his stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict sparked controversy, his win still stands out as a big moment for New York’s progressive movement.
