WASHINGTON, DC: Former New York Rep Charlie Rangel, 94, wondered whether President Joe Biden belonged in a nursing home rather than the White House following the incumbent's disastrous performance against his opponent Donald Trump in the CNN debate.

The Democrat, who served in Congress from 1971 to 2017, shared his thoughts on the June 27 presidential debate on 770 WABC radio's 'The Cats Roundtable' on Sunday, June 30.

Speaking of the debate, Rangel shared, "I have never been more shocked and embarrassed by any presidential debate than I was last Thursday. One [candidate is] a convicted felon who has no respect for the truth, for morality. The other seemed so damned confused I didn’t even know whether he knew where the hell he was at in terms of responding to the moderator."

During the 90-minute televised debate, President Biden frequently mumbled, trailed off mid-sentence, and struggled to articulate his points. Trump seized the opportunity to mock Biden’s sometimes unintelligible statements. The incumbent often stumbled over his responses and at one point paused before saying, "I beat Medicare."

He proposed that both presidential candidates undergo cognitive tests to determine their fitness for office. "It’s clear that Biden was shaky in responding … One has to think about what happens in the next four years," remarked Rangel.

The former congressman also pointed out that Trump, who is 78, is just three years younger than Biden.

Biden's debate performance was so troubling that voters might need reminding of Trump’s potential prison sentence for his conviction in the Stormy Daniels hush money case, Rangel noted. He explained that in most states, Republicans and Democrats will support their party's nominee despite any flaws, leaving the election to be decided by seven battleground states.

"If Trump is in jail, Republicans will vote for him. If Biden is in a nursing home, the Democrats are going to vote for him," expressed Rangel.

However, he acknowledged Biden’s strong performance on the stump the day after the debate, saying, "He was so on point, so articulate. He was better than he was at the State of the Union [address]. And I wondered, 'Where the hell was that Joe Biden [during the debate]?'"

The incumbent intends to seek reelection despite some media outlets and even fellow Democrats suggesting it’s time for him to step aside for the good of the party and the country.

Internet agrees with Charlie Rangel as he questions President Joe Biden's capacity to handle a second term

Netizens were in agreement with Rangel's analysis of the Biden-Trump debate, particularly his worries about the incumbent's ability to handle a second term.

One wrote, "I declare the #NEVERBIDEN movement has officially started," and another stated, "Full assisted living facility is more like it. Jimmy Carter is more control of himself than Joe at this point."

"He’s got to be kidding. There is no way Biden will last another 4 years. Mr. Rangel democrats will be voting for Trump this year. This one party rule and control is getting out of hand!" commented an individual.

Another one shared a meme about Americans needing to choose between a "nursing home patient" and a "felon."

Someone else quipped, "Maybe the Dems should run Rangel."
