Charmayne Guzman: Speeding drunk female driver arrested for killing 5-year-old girl in head-on car crash
KEARNS, UTAH: Earlier this month, a family was driving to a hair appointment when a drunk driver struck them head-on at a speed exceeding the 35 mph speed limit, which resulted in the death of a 5-year-old Utah girl.
Charmayne Huerta-Guzman, 25, has been charged with manslaughter, careless driving that results in death, and careless driving that results in injury, according to court documents.
Lennyn Lilic, 5, suffered severe head injuries
In addition, Guzman has also been charged with numerous misdemeanors, such as speeding, illegal passing, driving while prohibited by license, and reckless driving, KTVX reported.
Semir Lilic, a 32-year-old single father, was driving the family car while his 5- and 6-year-old children rode along.
As 5-year-old Lennyn was LifeFlight'd to a different hospital with severe head wounds, including skull fractures and brain bleeds, Lilic and his 6-year-old son were rushed to a hospital.
After being removed from life support following the crash on January 14, Lennyn died a few days later.
Before Lennyn was taken off life support, Samir Lilic told KTVX, "My little girl is going to be gone, so she doesn’t suffer. I’ll take all the suffering of her in my heart, and I’ll suffer for her for the rest of my life. I just want her to go to a better place."
Charmayne Guzman admitted to drinking before the collision
In the collision, Lilic broke both his leg and collarbone. His son has a broken nose and injuries to his hip.
Police were informed by witnesses that they saw a man in Huerta-Guzman's car take alcohol bottles out of the wrecked car and conceal them in the nearby church's bushes.
Guzman reportedly admitted to police that they were "heading home" after drinking before the collision. She had a blood alcohol content of 0.24 according to an initial blood test performed at the hospital.
Guzman did not have insurance, according to investigators, nor did she possess a valid driver's license. She is not being granted bail and is scheduled to return to court on February 6.
