LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Tattiyona Wilson, 29, of Nevada, will not spend any additional time in prison after initially being charged with the murder of her 2-month-old son. As per reports by Law and Crime, the baby died in 2020 with multiple fractures in his skull and a “foreign object” in his mouth.
Wilson was sentenced to probation on Thursday, January 11, for a felony charge of child abuse resulting in the death of her 2-month-old son Xaden Jackson. She was initially charged with murder after she was arrested in October 2021 in connection with Xaden's death, as per reports.
What did Wilson do?
Clark County District Court Judge Tierra Jones last week ordered Tattiyona Wilson to serve a sentence of three years on probation for her role in the September 2020 death of young Xaden Jackson.
Law and Crime has previously stated that Wilson was first taken into custody in October 2021 and charged with one crime of open murder and three charges of child abuse.
The authorities contended that Wilson was the one responsible for her son's fatal injuries. According to the results of an autopsy performed by the Clark County Coroner's Office on September 28, 2020, the infant died as a consequence of blunt force trauma consistent with abuse.
The baby had three different fractures to his skull, one of which the authorities stated seems to have occurred just 72 hours before he passed away. Wilson entered a guilty plea to one count of child abuse resulting in death before Jones imposed the sentence.
Wilson was able to enter a plea of guilty to the charge of child abuse, according to Chief Deputy District Attorney Dena Rinetti, because of "issues with the case," which included a medical examiner's testimony at a preliminary hearing suggesting that Xaden's injuries might have been caused by a single impact.
Chief Deputy Public Defender Edward Kane stated that his client has insisted that the baby's fatal injuries were inflicted by another small child.
"The fact that the other child was responsible for this wasn’t something that was dreamed up by my client and her husband at a later date,” Kane told the judge. “It was mentioned by both of them at their very first interview.”
'What does justice look like'
Kane and Rinetti both claimed to have spoken with experts who refuted the other side's claim regarding the origin of the injuries. Rinetti brought up the fact that Wilson's comments to investigators were allegedly inconsistent, according to the police.
"At the end of the day, your honor, the child is no longer with us,” Rinetti said. “I do believe the defendant who stands before you today is responsible for that.”
Before placing Wilson on probation, the judge agreed that it was a “difficult case.” She said she had to take into account that Wilson admitted to failing to supervise the baby, not to causing him harm.
"The court has to consider what does justice look like?” Tierra Jones said. “Is the idea of losing a child worse than whatever I’m going to do today? And I don’t know the answer to that, because this isn’t my child.”
District Judge Tierra Jones sentenced Wilson to probation not to exceed three years. If she violates her probation, she could face four to 10 years in prison.
