LUMBER RIVER STATE PARK, NORTH CAROLINA: Though authorities initially said Mica Miller died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, the autopsy report has prompted many to disagree with the idea that she committed suicide, instead suggesting that Mica's marriage was abusive.

Recently, Mica's father shared his worries about how Pastor John-Paul acted, saying it didn't look like real love, according to NewsNation.

Michael Francis, the father of Mica Miller, spoke to NewsNation host Elizabeth Vargas.

He remarked that John-Paul Miller's "behavior didn't match true love." Francis mentioned that Mica had difficulties in her relationship.

She was promised many things by John-Paul and received extravagant gifts.

However, Francis described John-Paul as someone who tried to buy love and expected something in return for his favors. He shared these sentiments on Friday afternoon.

Francis said, "She (Mica) struggled with the relationship. She was promised the world, and he would lavish her with things and items. … He (John-Paul) is the kinda person who tries to buy love. And if he does you a favor, he expects reciprocation. Nothing ever comes from him without a price."

RCSO seeks help from US Attorney and FBI in Mica Miller death probe

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office(RCSO) has sought assistance from the US Attorney’s Office and FBI for the investigation into Mica's death.

Earlier this week, the sheriff’s office stated it had been in contact with these federal agencies "since the early stages of the Mica Miller investigation."

The office cited "information gathered during the investigation and jurisdictional reasons" for seeking assistance but did not elaborate. Mica Miller's death, which garnered national attention, was ruled a suicide by the sheriff’s office.

The 30-year-old from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on April 27 at Lumber River State Park in North Carolina. Mica Miller’s family has accused her estranged husband, John-Paul, of making exaggerated claims about her mental health that led to her involuntary commitment to a psychiatric facility.

Francis alleged that John-Paul Miller claimed his daughter was not properly taking her medication and needed hospitalization in February 2023.

However, Francis stated that his daughter had simply decided to take one pill instead of two, which was allowed.

Francis claimed that throughout their interactions, John-Paul exaggerated and fabricated things to have Mica hospitalized against her will.

John-Paul Miller allegedly had his wife admitted by presenting her with a document purportedly giving her family power of attorney over her care, although it was never filed or notarized. The affidavit also alleged that John-Paul Miller repeatedly threatened to prevent Mica Miller’s family from seeing her before her hospitalization.

In an email, John-Paul Miller warned Francis not to trespass on properties owned by him or his church, from which his wife’s family was allegedly barred.

According to Wide Open Country, Mica's father expressed concerns over his daughter Mica Miller's death and also accused the police who are handling her case.

He stated, "Since there were multiple shell casings found and a live round found, it already didn't make much sense. So it would seem they would automatically do a complete toxicology, not just blood alcohol, and a complete autopsy, which they did not do."

He also criticized John-Paul for rushing the cremation, saying, "We're just devastated that they didn't because John-Paul rushed the cremation process."

In an interview with NewsNation, Michael Francis claimed that John-Paul drove his daughter to the brink of suicide, saying, "I know she was pushed to the brink. ... My theory is broad right now. There are bruises on her hand and injuries. These things are not documented, and they don't show up for no reason. We just want more answers."

He added, "As soon as they got married, her behavior went downhill fast. She seemed to be more sad, more under control. I believe he compressed her. He just sucked the life right out of her and caused her to go downhill."

Regarding the confusion about Mica's age from when she and John-Paul Miller were in touch, Francis claimed, "If I had to assume, I would guess that she probably meant [the year] 2010 and not 10 [years old]. She has consistently said since 14 years old. I have never heard her ever say 10 years old. That's not even possible, we weren't even in South Carolina."
